Synth used on Justin Timberlake - My Love?

Whatever you think of JT or even Timbaland, you gotta admit that that rising synth is just vicious in My Love. Even as a guy who listens to tons and tons of synth-based electro, I was just amazed the first time I heard this song because it's so right. Most electronic and hip hop producers can't reign a synth in so well.

Just wondering if anyone knows what was actually used on it... Sounds a bit like a CS-80 could be tweaked to get there, but I guess a ton of other synths could be used to get there too. And before people start telling me to get my own style, I'm not trying to recreate it at all. I just like knowing little tidbits of info like that.

It's an arpeggiated supersaw, aka several closely detuned saw waves

The synth in question good sir is a 'Virus'. Very hard trace sounding piece of equipment. That's where you'll find that sound.

I don't know off the Timberlake song, but FYI: thé supersaw synth is the Roland JP-8000 / JP-8080 .
Onboard 7 slightly detuned saws in one oscillator, where you can set the amount of detuning.
Only minor points: only 2-part multitibral, and a very poor fx processor. I agree there are the Access Virus series much better. But purely soundwise - if you can add fx via other ways (seperate fx processor or VST fx) - I'd definitely recommend this Roland babe.

Danjahandz produced the track... In an interview he said he uses mpc 2500 and a laptop for sounds..

Yes but positively the synth sound doesnt come from the MPC :p

As THM said the supersaw (if it is supersaw) is a speciality of the JP8080/8000. Lucky for me I have one

here's some money saving info..

if u own reason. go 2 bass sounds load up the raw hiphop bass layer sound. fuk wit the envelopes, start programming get a nice vibe goin, fuk wit the envelopes sum more, tweak it 2 sound how u want it and then last but not least, add a simple delay to it.

You all are wrong... The synth he used in My Love is the very last preset in the Vanguard. He used the Helicopter preset from the Vanguard on Diddy Rock and Wanna Move on Diddy's Press Play.

I've only heard the song a couple of times and any VA synth with a gate should do the trick from what I recall.

check out mysto & pizzi remix a justin timberlake track on you tube, if anybody here has heard their dance remix to what goes around you will notice they used it on this track, it is a preset on the motif.

well, It sounds like a roland product so its gotta be a jp, or hell, a fantom..

sounds like vanguard but edited slightly...i cant imagine timb using presets...

not timbo...danja handz, and ther is nothing wrong with using presets, alot of synths have really good presets that are too good to be ignored, besides, if anybody checked out the mysto and pizzi vid i heard the sample in you will notice pizzi is not just pressing a key but using an arrangment of chords. i don't have a motif so i cant say for fact but that vid convinced me. also for the original user that started this thread, you can try the hypersonic 2, layer a rave or saw lead with an organ layered under it quietly, play with the attack, not the delay, apreggiate it or try and do the notes by ear.

Vanguard < z3ta+ for supersaw sounds...add either CamelSpace or even the new G8-R (only $10.00) and you are good to go.

I remember when they were talking about that sound someone asked them what is was and they wouldn't say exactly but they said it was a Vst

i'll actually take my comment back, i read another post on here with mysto stating that my love was made completly with vst, also has recently stated that they use the motif only as a controller nowadays, so sorry if i misled anybody, i am very curious now to know what vst it was, not to bite the style just wonder if it is a common one that most of us probably have but just tweaked around.

I was about to correct you on that :D, I know a free VST that can recreate the sound exactly (or at least come close to it) if you have a little synth tweaking knowledge. It's called Silkworm you can download it here http://www.simple-media.co.uk/music/vsti/vsti.htm

Chose the saw waveform and tweak the parameters to your liking and for those that want exactly the "My Love sound" (those that want it to stutter the same way) set the gate sequencer to a pattern that looks like this "UP-DOWN-UP-DOWN-UP-DOWN-DOWN-DOWN" (I'm talking bout the position of the switches of course...) and don't forget to set the "Gated" setting to "y". You might also want to turn the "Gating" knob a little higher so it ... uh.. gates more. And voila.

thanx for the link, i just download it and will try it out tonight, i get the impression you have already recreated the loop?

They used a VST on that one... Anybody could do that synth sound... There's a guy here who made a patch for that in Reason... And if you look at it, it's so simple...
