Ableton Addict
Ive read so much on the subject and nothing is really working, my sub bass is constantly giving off a click and doesnt matter what i make it in, its happening in massive, ableton operator and another bass synth ive got but its worse in massive

Ive tried envelope shaping, attack and release.. terrible results
Mono with glide... nothing
EQ'ing - works slightly but can still hear the click its just a lower frequency
LP Filter - good results but its just masking the problem, not fixing it
Converting to audio - nothing

Im out of ideas and i just want to make a pure low frequency sine wave without any clicks

Has anyone got a idea whats going on and how to fix it?

Thanks

Does that same click happen when you listen to the same sound in other playback systems?

Care to post a sample? A lot of synths tend to "click" when the amp env's attack is at zero. You said you've already tried env shaping, but I'd probably still look into it (of course, without hearing it, it's hard to tell).

solo audio is all I want to hear - not mp3 please but wav or aiff or flac - my guess is zero crossing clicks or envelope issues

ps - eq'ing will not change the frequency of the sound just dull the overtones/harmonics the same basic pitch will be present - this btw, suggests zero-crossing errors, especially if you are using a sample to create the sub

Are you using reverb? Any exaggerated EQ? From my experience, go over the stuff you added to the bass and mute things in order to find where the click is, then fix it.

I know it might not be helpful to hear, but perhaps just replace the sound altogether?

il try and get a clip uploaded soon but i thought it was only mp3's this website allowed?

its not my monitors as they are brand new yamaha's and i cant see it being the sound when its happening in 3 different synths.

Im not using any effects or EQ, its just a sine wave clicking, i was talking to someone i know who has massive and he also has the same problem.. he said making it mono helps but it doesnt seem to do anything on mine

solo examples will be fine

mp3 is all you can attach or directly embed, but you can still link to any other file type at a 3rd party sharing site

Pretty sure the click you're talking about is coming from the immediate attack of the sub. I hate em, they suck.

The easiest way I get rid of clicks (while keeping the attack), is to bring the very first point in your volume envelope to 0%. Then bring the second point to 100% (or whatever level you want) literally right above the 1st point. The click will be gone and your attack is still sharp.

Whether you have the ability to do that ultimately depends on the VST you're using.

Could be the sine wave is out of phase when being triggered.......like instead of starting at 0 you are randomly triggering at the top and drop of the wave......not sure though......could possibly be due to some gate or synchronization setting.

also a good possibility and falls under the wide umbrella of zero-crossing errors

this one can be fixed by setting forced synchronisation in synths that allow you to do so ;the switch/flag/setting forces the synth to start all waveforms from 0

il try and find somewhere to upload a wav file but not a member of anywhere that can at the minute so ive had to do it in mp3

It might be to do with phasing but seems strange when its happening in many synths. Ive recorded two different samples here with the restart gates on and off ( Massive VST )

"Bass Clicking" is with "Restart via gate" turned off

"Bass Clicking 2" is with "Restart via gate" turned on

Both have had the envelopes played with in every way possible and doesnt seem to make any difference

ive just changed it from "Monophon" to "Monorotate" on the voicing tab and its pretty much got rid of the clicks, best ive managed to get anyway

so a visual inspection of each file shows that there are zero-crossing/envelope issues with the first two, and are, as suggested by hollandturbine, caused by the sound starting at some random point in the cycle rather than the start of a cycle.

the third file has each sound start at the start of the cycle and so eliminates the clicking caused by starting at an amplitude other than 0

Only question left to ask is what daw/vst are you using to make this sound?

Judging by the lingo used in the previous post, I'd bet my money on it being Massive.

thanks, the samples were made in massive

seems strange how the clicking stopped when i switched from "monophon" to "monorotate" and didnt even touch the restart via gate option... hopefully it doesnt do it again because its such a workflow killer
