Use whatever. I constantly expand on my viny drums and keep building (and subtracting from) my vinyl drums. I also have a few kits as well. To me, building my drumkit is more of a hobbie than anything. I could defineatly put something useable together with the couple kits i have if need be. I also have to say that higher end drumkits have come a long way and defineatly are a great addition to the drums i've chopped.

hmm sorry to be a lil offtopic.. but what are the usual "key words" for these kits? jus so i can search google and see waht you guys are talking about.. thanks

i got sucked into buyin producer kits on ebay and the sounds sucked. i dont even use em. thats when i started, i now get ym own drums.

I like cutting breaks myself most of the time. I used to dig alot from vinyl cassetes, and cd's.
I've found a healthy dose of breaks online too that are good quality.
Someone upped a dumptruck load on another forum, and I scooped them up.
Then I found out those breaks were being sold for $100 by someone lol.
Well they deserve to have thier breaks jacked IMO. No one should be selling breaks from old vinyl online.
I don't care how hard they worked to souce all of it either.
They could'nt have possibly cleared all of those breaks, so how can they sell them, and not expect to get jacked lol.

All breaks are excerpts from recordings. It's not like the original artist is getting paid off some kid sourcing a bunch of breaks, and trying make cash from it.

So dive in, and grab all the good vinyl breaks you can, and chop'em up.
But I would'nt pay for'em unless thier on vinyl.

Now I'm not advocating stealing sampling cd's offline, but if all that's on there is old breaks it's not thier material to sell anyway.

Now if someone is going to take the time to actually clear hundreds of breaks, that's differant, but c'mon some of these small outfits arent clearing nothing.

i use the stock drums that come on my motif. hell most of em are from yamaha drum kits anyway, and a few 808 and 909 samples.
