Starting out...

I'm just starting to forray into the technical side of Techno and I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the information at my disposal. What I'm specifically interested in right now is composing my tracks with a computer, but I don't know really where to begin. I'm mostly leaning towards Trance and House.

I just got a sweet P4 system, so I've got the hardware down. What I would like are software recommendations--something that can handle recording, composition, etc. Additionally, if anyone knows of some good hardware that supplements composition on a computer, please list that too.

I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, so if you could list cheap alternatives in addition to the more expensive packages, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks.

ok

ACID is good for sequencing, as electricgoth (nice name btw) mentionned.

HOWEVER if you want to compose music, I STRONGLY recommend REASON 1.0 ( http://www.propellerheads.se). This program integrates everything from synthesizer (good sounding too) to sampler, mixer, drumbox, effects, sequencer... etc..

Link to the detailed info page:

If you already had a whole studio I wouldn't mention reason, but as yuu are starting out (and you dont have equipment yet), REASON is THE thing to buy.

We received a box from propellerheads a few days ago here at onlineDJ, and so far, we are impressed... I plugged a simple MIDI controller (100 Dollar keyboard) and voila.

now... i don't own stocks at propellerheads :).. but they did a hell of a job programming reason.

Have u looked at a software called reason ? and fruity loops and rebirth.

Wow! That Reason package looks really excellent. Thanks for the recommendations--I think I just made my choice. :)

Cubase VST 5.0

I will definitely give Reason its props, however, I have to stick with Cubase VST 5 and all those great plugins. Not too expensive either. http://www.steinberger.com is the address I believe. Check it!
