Southern Rappers > Northern Rappers. Yeah, I said it.

I'm in a arguring mood. Try to convince me that the norths hip hop is better than the souths. I never really got into the northern style since I'm a southern dude myself. I've always found that a track with a bumping ass 808 and snare rolls beats a track with samples and a guy trying to be lyrical but sounds like a idiot. Change my mind FP

Soulja boy. Yeah, I said it.

At least the North tries to be lyrical (according to you.)

The south has Soulja Boy.

well your title argues that southern rappers are better than northern rappers

but in your post you talk about the beats

so which is it the rappers or the beats?

I like both.....depends what mood I'm in

but overall I'd say northern rappers (NYC) are better than southern (ATL) rappers.........as for Texas rappers they are in a league of their own

everyone makes dope beats and alot of rappers are great where ever they may reside

it would depend on what your arguing......

I think this generation of rappers from the south is better then the north's crop of rappers.......

So if were talking Wayne vs Juelz, T.I. vs Cassidy, Jeezy vs. Fabolous then I agree with you.

If its overall.......We really dont have people down here that match up with Jay-Z, Nas, and the list can go on.........

As far as beats. Hot is hot. And a sample can be Hot az Hell.......... Just Blaze type samples is what the East Should make its living off of. The Boom Bap stuff is kind of outdated to the consumers but I think new style samples are still hot if done right

It's not even worth arguing. The South has SOME good music but its nowhere near as much as the north (Im assuming you mean The East and Midwest). Theres just no comparison. You have Outkast, HAD UGK, HAD Geto Boys, Cunninglynguists and others but c'mon there isnt a comparison.

fabolous is better than jeezy...jeezy is dope..but fab is better.

lyrics wise? yeah your right

but overall I disagree. I think all the other traits a rapper has to have Jeezy has surpassed Fabolous. Jeezy has already made a coherant Album that will be listened to 10 years from now..... All fabolous can do is make a hit targeted to women every 2 to 3 years or so. Plies did that within what 2 years lol. I think Jeezy just has an overall better Resume to stand on.

your right...i actually think his albums can be much better...omg if jeezy production was given to fab..i think it would be monstrous.

While this thread is soley based on opinion, usually a method based on skills and sales, the south's best active rappers are 3stacks, Scarface, T.I, lil Wayne, and Ludacris. The North best active rappers are Nas, Hov, Beans, 50, and Fabolous. Judging by catologue, I feel that the list of rappers from the north, greatly exceeds what the south has put out.. I like 808 and snare rolls, but I sorta can predict how the beats gonna play out. With the exception of Nas(who has bangin beats but most of his songs has beats that fit him) all the northen rappers has beats that can cater to all crowds. Again it's all about preference. I listen to both, but up North rappers put out more quality music. For every Soulja Boy, there's a hundred Dj Unk.

But if you judge the catalogue of Rappers of this generation. Which doesnt include 3stacks, scarface, Jay, nas. You'll see the South's catalogue is superior.

The only one in the new generation of NY rappers that has made a dramatic impact with an Album release is 50 Cent. When other East Coast rappers of this generation make an album its irrelevant in the market.

As far as beats I think your wrong. It seems like consumers are more willing to accept the simplistic Southern beats. And the North has had to change there approach. The New East Coast doesnt really have a trade mark sound. They either gotta get a beat from a Super Producer or slightly bite the south to make a hit. Jeezy for example came in wit Shawty Redd and took the Industry over. T.I. came wit Toomp and did the same thing. Lil Wayne came in Wit Mannie and did it.

The north really cant come in with an under the radar producer and do that. They have to get Just Blaze, Swizz Beats, Timbo, or other REally established names to make noise. Either that or bite the south. The south can come with no names and make the country go crazy...... Im not sayin thats a good thing but its the truth

Current South Rappers I like:

Phonte, Big Pooh, Cee-lo Green, Outkast, Ludacris, Dead Prez

Current North Rappers I like:

Jay-Z, Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Twista, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Beanie Sigel, Eminem,

Back when it was all hip hop and no one cared about the region, there was Scarface, Geto Boyz, The D.O.C., 8ball and MJG, Big Mike, Suave house all repping Texas and I liked all of them.

The thing is most of these south rap fans, really only like the beats. From what I can tell. All they say is one of three things.

Either, he got raw beats, he sell a lot of records, or he got money though.

Never his lyrics are raw as hell. Most East and west and Midwest fans will say lyrics first beats second and sales a distant third if at all. Because to most other fans, they don't need record sales to justify why they like a rapper.

This is from what I have seen.

So ur tellin me that Big Pun or Fabolous aren't better than your average southern rapper? That's crazy. I like southern beats but not most southern rappers

^id prefer a young jeezy or bun b over a pun or fabolous. I just don't see the hype of the northern lyrical type rap.

You sure, bro? You don't see these "mindless drones" running around reciting their favorite Wayne and Young Jeezy verses??
