Soundclick vs Your own .com

I think it's best to get your own .com and forward it to soundclick like Xabiton said. That way you have your own domain but can still reek the benefits soundclick offers in its statistic tools, promo services, music charts, and already integrated community.

I'll put it to you like this...

The best websites #online provide information or entertainment and, even though soundclick helps sell beats, they can't sell you; but a website can. And the truth is that service can be sold anywhere using any platform given the right tools, resources, and motivation. The reason that I decided to build my website is because I want to see the same numbers that the pros are looking at, you know what I mean? Plus, I hate paying monthly fees #realtalk #imjustsayin #btw get @proproducerjc on #twitter < The only time I'd pay for their service would be to promote
a limited time offer, or something like that.

Joomla is a FREE cms and so is wordpress. They're uploaded to your web servers and stay their. Web hosting is about $230 every 4 years, or so. You get free domain name, unlimited space and bandwidth, and other goodies. If your website is designed correctly all you need is physical and #online social networking and a little bit of patients. You'll make your money back with your first real gig; totally worth the investment. Not only that but, you maintain complete control and will have you foot in that #musicindustry door. I'll help you get everything started and show you the ropes if you'd like.

I know now, that it's best to focus on being as memorable as possible. Don't depend strictly on your #music, especially as a producer. People #follow people before they #follow #music. And, even when they #love the song, they'll what to know more about the person or people behind it #realtalk; although I'm sure ya'll new that already. But what you may not know, it that listeners loose interest when they can't associate with the person or people behind the music.

Ya Id deffinatly like that, I was looking for hosts online, but im looking for a place that will let me pay month by month, all the ones im seeing are like, year by year.

Yeah, I agree that having your own website is nice, but a lot of people's sites are messy and it's just better if they stick with a clean default than to make their own. Potentially, though, having your own website is the best way to go. Still, if all you do is sell beats, soundclick should be just fine. I mean, look at Vybe, he just uses soundclick.

I can respect that.

Producers, song writers, singers, and all other forms of music makers have been using music since it's discovery. I started out only selling beats online and things were fine until this crazy as* social networking boom. I remember that, for a while, the internet was nothing but noise to me. I've always had the most luck working with people 1 on 1 and in person. My website was originally meant to be used as a way to display my cleverly created instrumentals. I work to make sure that all of the projects that I'm involved with successfully created and marketed.

I get online for entertainment, mostly. #twitter and #facebook are fun which make them great tools for me to accomplish what I'm accomplishing #rightnow with my website. But it's not for everyone. I look at soundclick as affordable eCommerce for producers. But isn't much different from reverbnation or tuncore, from that aspect. These online tools meant for selling.

I don't know about you, but i #love a good give away.

Soundclick -vs- Soundcloud

Right now i have a soundcloud.
Do you guys prefer Soundclick or Soundcloud?

I want to sell beats to...

I had a soundclick when i started like 5 years ago.
that shit was so bad it wasn't worth any money.
i think my tracks nowadays are worth a $10 cause i really spend hours on it.

But i don't know the difference between soundclick and soundcloud really?

Joomla is great. Another awesome free options is Wordpress or Tumbler. Also twitter IMO is a definite must. I've gotten so much work from Twitter that it literally changed my career.

Thats what im hoping all this will do. Do you guys make a decent living *enough to survive* with selling beats and everything?

You have to think further than just beats my friend. If you do "just beats" you probably won't survive very long unless your in the upper echelon of producers but that takes years to get to. You have to expand, grow and learn to take opportunities as they come.

Either way could work as long as you invest the money into promoting. Soundclick is nice because of the charts once you pay for the promo and get high in the charts you can usually stay in the top 100 for a week or so and get some steady traffic coming in.

Oh, I know im going to be doing more than just beats. How much does soundclick cost to start?

It's only $10 a month for the VIP page, it's just the promo that gets expensive, most of the people in the top 100 will do a 'promo song of the day' a few times throughout the month or at least 1 'front page spotlight' a month. But if you have good beats it's easy to make the investment back and a profit within a few days.

At this point in the game you've gotta start off thinking outside of the box.

Knowing what I' know now I'd start off by putting the same (like 3-5) beats on multiple websites for non exclusive sale. In the meanwhile I'd work on promoting my music and my name and driving traffic 2 my personal website. <== Call that "Homebase". Build around that.

Assuming your music is half way decent you should sell something in your first month. Once you start achieving sales reinvest into promotion on those sites that you are seeing money from. Keep track of who's buying you're beats and hit em up with some lightweight email solicitation. Keep in mind approach is everything.

Rinse and repeat.

Good Luck.

Well its not just that. Its getting your music on the radio, selling to rappers only is very short sighted. Commercials, TV and Movies are all great avenues for your music.

how all would I go about getting it on videos, and movies and stuff?

Licensing music for film and commercials will bring in $$$ but from what I've noticed most cats who are interested in 'the soundclick game' 9 times outta 10 just want to hear an MC over their beats and are looking for some fast dough. Although my contribution to this thread is based off of my personal experience, I think we all can agree that you have to pursue all avenues regardless if its Soundclick or Taxi or whatever.

Sh*t, I recently had an artist who copped a beat from me off my Soundclick page contact me regarding split sheets cause EA games was interested in the final track..

One things for sure, you never really know where your next opportunity will come from.....
