Ok, So i was wondering if it would be better for your own website or soundlick to sell beats, and if you use soundlick is the contract already written up, and if not how would i do that so people didnt steal my beats?

soundclick limits you to only selling beats. websites grow and develop with you while soundclick stays the same. the choice was easy for me to make cause i get past limitations, for real.

I did it myself. I'll help you out if you want. Do you use #twitter? if so, link up with me there for faster conversation regarding this topic.

I'd still use Soundclick and integrate it with your site. Soundcloud has a great player and tons of options for embedding the player.

we can chat here. I turn on email notification. #btw #twitter is becoming the music industry social network of choice for most, just #fyi. when are you planning to take that step?

I have one, but I cant remember the number I put on it to recover my password =s

#lol and #smh

developing a real #online presence will change you life. anyway, what would you like you website/soundclick to do for you?

I want mostly to be able to license my beats/sell them, be able to post about stuff, have accounts, be able to have a playlist of my tracks. Im not exactly positive, what would you suggest?

you're already on the right path. but you should understand the your beats won't sell themselves, and don't believe anyone that tells you different. You'll be responsible for monitoring web traffic and find your visitor/customer conversion ratio. Sound Click can't help with that....yet. Once you start putting in the effort to drive traffic to your site, you'll see where you're you best results are.

Yah, I know I plan on doing that, im not just gonna make it, im deffinatly going to get it out there, but Im not exactly sure on how im gonna make my website. But those options I listed, those sound good you think?

use both bro. that's what i'm doing. and, look into using content management system (CMS) like joomle. Or, you could use wordpress for your website.

More advantages of learning to brand through your own dot com

1. Over time you are more likely to rank #1 for your artist name if share the title with others
2. You don't have to share your brand with another that will always take precedence over yours.
3. Your website is your own identity. It's not some mass produced template with slight variations from each artist page.
4. No privacy policy issues or changes over time that create havoc on how you promote your music. Such as how Myspace decided to create changes with the new profiles. In my case they just deleted all my hard work.
5. If I want to connect with you, I don't have to sign up for a service to do so.
6. Learning the the skills of owning, creating a presence and maintaining a website is invaluable. It puts you a step ahead of the crowd... many who will not invest the time it takes to build a real brand.
7. I personally take artists more seriously when I can navigate to their dot com. No so much when they say find me on a such and such network.
8. You can embed social media in to your website.
9. It's better to have many social media accounts and drive traffic to your personal brand instead of driving it to another.
10. There are literally hundreds of tools and services that you can integrate into your site to help you succeed. I'd suggest you start off with Google Webmaster Tools.
11. A website is like running a business. If your are an artist trying to make a living, you need to act more like a business person and become your own webmaster.

Make your own Luck!

I have a .com thats forwarded to soundclick its very effective. I think having your own site developed from the ground up offers a lot but I also think that soundclick is a trusted choice by many.

Yeah if all you want to do is sell beats, then soundclick should be just fine. A lot of hot producers use soundclick. However, if you are selling other sevices like recording and mixing/mastering, then you should probably make your own site.
