I Just wanted to know are these microphones good for recording? and do they provide good vocal quality?

I might not qualify as "experienced" with the 3k or 4k...
I'd prefer a 2000 with a Royer mod.

Remember its not just the mic but the engineer as well. Also, the application of your mic will be something to consider. Are you recording rappers, singers, or will you use for instruments as well? There isn't a all in one mic but there are some that are very versatile. If you can hold off and save up there are a few better options for a few hundred more.

If you can't wait I'd say buy it if you can get it from a local store that has a 30day return policy. Play around with it and see if you like it.

First adjust your gain staging to your liking.
Then develop and apply an eq template to compensate for its response curve (adds clarity).

Lastly, the mic is not the only consideration as it isn't the only component in your chain. There are some pre's that emulate more expensive one's for a quarter of the cost. A excellent pre with a okay mic can sound really good... maybe not the best to an audiophile but general public couldn't tell the difference.

Actually im a rapper recording vocals and only vocals, so i would want a good condenser that was affordable, im 17 with no job dont think im seeing a 1000 dollar mic just yet but i can afford one that was a few hundred probably not 500, but if you have any suggestions on a good mic that would work good with pro tools im all ears even if it is cheaper than the MXL. By the way what did you mean by the application of my mic?

Actually i have a few questions on top of those. What do you mean Pre? and does the cost of my mbox or ineterface matter? like are some better than others?

i have the mxl 4000 ITS EXCELLENT for rap vocals...and for singing you can even switch the mic pattern from cardioid....best mic in its price brackett IMO, you wont be disappointed

I own both a 3000 & 4000, and I can say they are great for what you pay for them. Over the past 8 years I have owned almost even MXL, and the 4000 is still one of my fav's! For rap vocals I would go with that 4000, than save up a little bit of cash and get yourself a nice preamp. Something like an Grace Design model 101, Focusrite ISA One, or MXL MPAC-01.

P.S. Also don't sleep on the 2003A, I'm thinking about sending my out to get modded:

Well im going to be using pro tools so id only be able to use a pre amp by digidesign

I maybe wrong, but I believe you can use any AI and preamp with the new Pro-Tools. Don't take that to the bank, because I have never used it a day in my life

i dont think so cause i saw one and it specifically asks for digidesign
