So what do everything think about this good bad... will sizzla open up the market for more and more jamaicans to come, checkout the Foxy Brown and Sizzla come fly with me, I think this is his first track off the new Label.

This might be an mistake for Sizzla, they're going to want him to change his stlye and make songs to suite them. Like they did Capelton when he was signed to Def Jam or some label like that. The album sucked and I know Capelton didn't like it cause that was the last album he did with them. The only somewhat big label that Sizzla should stick with is VP...

I agree, Def Jam is not the right place for Sizzla.. He'll either get shelved or forced to get rid of that falcetto singing style he's been dabbling with the last couple years. Hmm! come to thing of it, that maybe a good thing.

Im interested to see how Def Jam deals with content/censorship, specifically homophobic content.

There is no denying that the previous Def Jam / JA collab was an embarassing waste of time that did more to cripple dancehall's credibility on the US market than a million Shaggy's singing Oh Carolina at once, so this could seriously be the end of Sizzla's career as a dancehall artist and the beginning of his carreer as a disposable footnote in US pop culture.

Btw, I kind of like his falsetto work, especially on Love The Life You Live for example.

If you were a music executive and he auditioned for you with that voice, you'd laugh him out of the office. LOL. But I love it too especially on Ain't Gonna See Us Fall & Rise To The Occassion.

To kinda elaborate on what CurlZ said, we as Jamaicans or Reggae fans kinda expect certain imperfections from our singers, thats what make them unique. Every body from jack radics to I-wayne, but the Falcetto sh*t or the coarse voice thing Sizzla is doing, just will not cut it in the bigger Pop/ Hip hop music market.

Sometime some artist need to just stay in their lane and do what they are good at..

After bashing Sizzla for the past couple of years, I still feel that there is good solid artist inside him who, with the right guidiance, mgmt and producers, can put out a solid album thru Def Jam that can stand up against any Pop, Hip hop or anything else out there..

You know, if they get Primo to do his beats, he could dominate the US market. With or without the falsetto, he could hit hard with Primo doing the production..

But lets face it; when was the last time Def Jam made a competent decision along those lines?

They are going to let their stable of commercial hiphop producers churn out B grade beats for an artist none of them are familiar with, and that will be that.

cant see sizzla pon def jam at all...honestly i cant say that i care for his music anymore anyway...recreation is vital to artistry but not if its detrimental..his singing is HORRIBLE! his voice has lost something...and his lyrical content has suffered...black,woman and child was a crowning achievement, as were good ways & praise ye jah IMO...Sizzla lost his way

I dont think its make a difference. He will still be doing his thing in JA and releaseing songs every week on different riddims.

The album will just be a bunch of JA hits plus a couple new Americanized songs.

Isnt that what Capelton did?

tsss, his style will change, and yeah, he'll be pop... but thats what happens to an artist of any genre that starts getting US attention

I seriously doubt he'll change, he recently cancelled all his gigs in Europe including some major festivals because they wanted a "no battyman" clause in the contract

the song is ok, i think sizzla should definitely stick to vp. People like originality believe it or not and that's not what he would be producing on Jay Z's label

very good post, that really sums it up.

Since when do people like originality? Some do, most definitely don't.

I think artist like sizzla have a higher cause and destination. They are music creators, they create the styles, and its about time for artist like him to get more US exposure.

true but sizzla isnt a producer, and producing cuts for dancehall artists is a skill that no one has seen so far from the defjam camp.

when i hear that bobby kondors or premier is doing the production, or that defjam is financing propper production in JA, im interested, but until then my hopes are not high.
