"Shure SM7b" vs. "Rode NT1000" for rap vocals

If you're mic'ing vocals with high SPL's I don't think there's much competition against the Shure SM7B's, the EV RE20's, and the Heil PR40 type of mics.

For mellow vocals or anything not too loud, I'd use certain condesors but for high SPL vocals most sound harsh and thin.

with the artist i'm looking at working with it definitely sounds like the sm7b would be a better choice then

I use an SM57 and a Sterling ST-77. The sterling is warmer and the 57 sounds good with vocals also but has less tube feel to it. It's not the 7b but they're pretty similar with the 7b more tailored for vocals alone. From using the 57 I would buy the 7b without even hearing it and not be that concerned, whatever that's worth.

man i'm still lokking for the perfect mic aswell..think i'm leaning towards a heil pro pr40
