Shakira supports illegal downloading

That's what's up. Her fans are gonna support her either way.

Music will be free in the future. Artist don't even get rich thru album sales so that won't hurt them much.

People who download albums don't really give a sh*t about the album in the first place. She knows her true fans will support her. If Lil Wayne released the carter 4 free and still made it available to purchase people would still buy the album.

People who download spend more money in support of the artists than those that don't...

Downloading albums is PROMOTION for the other revenue streams (if they exist)...Concert tickets, hardware (headphones, laptops) merchandise, clothing, colognes, movies, etc, etc, etc.

I've only been saying that for YEARS.

Then again, when you get caught downloading all this music you will be fined. look forward to these kind of laws in a neighborhood near you! =]

I don't really download albums anymore, but I do burn them from friends. (I don't have a problem with downloading them, I just don't wanna risk gettin' virus' and whatnot) But, yeah, Anyway if i like it enough, then I'll go buy it anyway. I prefer to get it on vinyl tho if I can find it. Makes it more a a collectors item I guess. lol

I don't think she knows what the hell she's talking about. More illegal downloads means she's out of a job.

Not sayin' that will happen but generally things that are illegal are bad, that's why they're "illegal." So saying it's a good thing is a bit pants in my opinion.

these labels today are stupid

why would you try to get 1,000 sales of a $.99 mp3 or 100 sales of a $15 album

when the artist could do 1 show and make alot more than that?

I been lurking for a minute, and I have to put in my 2 cents. Illegal downloading is not cool. Alot of you up and coming producers will sing a different tune if and when you make it.

Think of all of the hours away from family, music lessons, getting told your **** is wack! Then finally make it and have have a large percentage of your revenue taken.

I bet if you owned a tire shop and on every tuesday and friday you got held at gunpoint and they took one third of your inventory plus cleaned out the cash register, you would be ready to go wild wild west!!

Then go home and tell your family that we are not eating this week, but it's ok the guys who held me up is gonna go tell everyone that I have the best tires in town. So we will make that money back...SMH

I'll keep this short.....

Man y'all saw Shakira on SNL? Ay mami, que buena esta. Don't know what to say about illegal downloading.... But I see what it does to Reggaeton and Musica Urbana. And it's not good for the artist. Matter of fact all American artist with sucesss don't have shyt to cry about compared to Artist in PR or DR. SMH......@ that.

Anyway, the dude above me is right..... People should stop pirating so much ...or at least buy what the like.

Edit :

Some cats got top hit songs and still live with their mamas.... DAMN!

pirating isnt hurting anybody
pirating gives the artists exposure

some of these artists would never have gotten heard if it wasnt for blogs

why dont people understand that record sales arent the only way to make money with music

Back in the 90's, African's in harlem where getting terrorized. NOBODY was tolerating bootlegging.

If you have passion for music and respect the craft and hardships, You would get an iTunes account or whatever legal account to make sure that the artist is compensated.

More the industry strives, longer the door stays open for the up and coming producers. But when you have beatmakers, producers, and just about every industry cat downloading illegal music, the industry makes less, people lose their jobs and the doors of opportunity are not open as long.

The only PROMOTION as J.Troup refers to should be to the DJ's. That's it!!

Stealing is bad. You just don't think about it cause it's not tangible in your mind.

Pirating does hurt. We will agree to disagree. The principle must be lost in this concept.

I never said that it was the only revenue. I am saying that you present a product, you get paid...simple.

Especially for an independent artist. I'm from the 80's, 90's. I do not understand justifying piracy when the artist/producer is trying to make a living and support his family..

artists make 100x more with shows than they do record sales

a known indie artist could get paid about $1,000 for a show

why would you try to get 1,000 $.99 sales on itunes when you can make 1000x more than that in 1 show?

and that doesnt include radio royalties

I hear ya bruh, But it is all mine it's the principle. What if promoters started to say I want you to do 3 shows for me. I am only paying you for one. And the merchandise is going to be given away for promotion.

When does it end? I think that this is a generational mindset...I don't get it..

I don't care how much shows you do. You can't physically be at multiple shows at a time. But when you are sleeping, working on new material or doing shows, your music is selling worldwide.

50,000 downloads of your album is $500,000. That's not chump change. How many shows would a local/regional artist have to do to make that amount?
