Selling beats using a squeeze page is very important. Using a squeeze page allows you to gather their information in return for something free. Give them a free beat or 2 for giving you their email. This allows you to build up your mailing list. When using a squeeze page you can obtain their contact information and the next time you have a sale or release a free beat you will have a contact list. So you will have automatic traffic everytime you send out a email.:) Check out my blog in my sig to learn more tips.

Ok a squeeze page is a landing page. When u send someone to ur website this page pops up. This page doesn't allow visters to view the rest of your site without given u their email in return for something free like a beat or a&r contacts or something like that. Check out my site I have a squeeze page http://futuristicswagbeats.com/ this page that u c first is called a squeeze page.

It's true I have quite a contact list myself already, but Idk about the squeeze page.. When I look at it I'm like 'Fuk This Sh!t & X Out' although I'm not there to buy beats, I'm just sayin I'm sure that's the thought that'll run through most 'artists' heads....

If your beats are good I'm sure. I haven't heard any so I can't judge.

True... And alot of these producers on here want to sell beats so bad but won't do what is needed... They won't put in the work

Honestly, DO NOT give out free beats unless your making music for fun and passion. FREE less than $500 beats is why the music game is where it is and producers arent making money. And so many shitty rappers are out. So DONT DO IT. The mailing list should be option because if not its SPAM.

Most artist make HORRIBLE business people. Sorry but it is true. This does not matter rather they sell paintings, music, movies or whatever and this is because they have an attachment to their work. This usually makes them over-price their stuff or under-value their stuff depending on what they think it is worth. This is a totally wrong approach to making money and why a lot of us aren't making enough to go out for a nice dinner yet alone enough for a car payment, rent, etc.

You make money by selling to loyalty, you get loyalty by giving someone value and treating them right, when you give someone something they believe is valuable, they are more likely to buy from you when you ask. This is simple psychology that we all learned in high school. People by with emotion.....this is all simple stuff people.

I know a producer that NEVER gives away free beats because he feels like his talent & time should by paid for. I called him a couple of weeks ago to see how he did sale wise for 2011. He told me he sold 12 beats last year. 3 exclusives and 9 leases. This sounds good right? Hmmm...okay let's do the math. His exclusives are $200 (3x200=$600) and his leases are $25 (9x25=$225) so his total earnings for the year was $885. Now I sold 5 exclusives and 20 leases last year for a net of $1500. I did this through marketing to the data base of customers that I gave free beats to only. This does not count regular sales or anything else I did...this is just free beat buyers. Now wait before you say well my beats must have been better then his...I was selling his beats! I don't even make beats I am a studio engineer. Plus I pad his beats $15 so I make a little something extra so those sales number are actually more! So I sold HIS beats for some extra side money and sold more than he did (when all he does is make beats all year)? I will be the first to say he is a better producer than I am, but I am a better business person and marketeer and at the end of the day that is what pays the bills!

The bottom line is squeeze pages, data base building, etc. are ALL simple business concepts that every business uses and practices and the reason most producers and artist don't know about these things and/or use them is because they don't realize how to run a business or they don't realize that this whole music thing is a business!

Giving away free material is a fantastic idea if you are SMART and most producer's aren't sadly. Most artist will be more than happy give you their songs in exchange for free beats. I don't care how good or bad they are because I know there are thousands of placement opportunities out there (especially jingles)

If you make sure your agreement states that they don't own the instrumentals, you have the right to push the music and they own half the song (their vocals) you are covered. They don't even need to sign a contract they just need to click the agreement button. If they don't have their publishing in order and their music winds up on American Gangster (just an example) then they are out of money not you.

This is perfect way to get songs completed, sure there we be a lot of bs but truth is you will have a a lot of quality material you can shop to companies without having to pay artist for verses or hooks.

Most of the income streaming from jingle placements are residual (for the life of the project aka tv show). Most reality tv shows don't have the best of songs on them just throwing that out there.

It's a great business model if you know how work it

What do offline businesses do give away free samples with their contact info... Given away free stuff is a age old marketing technique. But don't jus give away free stuff without getten their email. That is not spamming they obiviously want u to contact them if they give u their email. And the point of getting their email is to have guaranteed traffic. You use the email list that u build to let ppl kno when u have new beats uploaded, promotions, and more. Come on producers this is part of building a successful business. Go to college for business and you will see I kno what I'm talking about.

You hit the nail in the coffin. What I was reffering to is expecting instant gratification by giving cheap beats where you can it a burger today or take your lady out to eat a burger but you wont be able to take her to Vegas. Ya feel me. Free beats for a good reason no strings attached is a great tool. As long as you still own the rights.

You made some good points here, but like Cyko said and what I have also said, producers are NOT generally good business people so most won't get it. They don't understand that the goal of business is to grow your data bases and not to make money. Making money is a by-product of a good data base, but not the goal. I sold a website I built (and I wouldnt say how much), but that business sold mainly because of the data base of targeted music buyers I had obtained over a 3 year span. So when I sold the website the data base was a huge part of the asking price which I got. I bet you if they just grasp a few of these concepts then they would triple their monthly sales easy.
