Selling stuff to Guitar Center?

anybody every trade stuff in at guitar center? is it worth it or do they just rip you off? i got a few pieces i'm trying to get rid of.

What are you getting rid of? Best thing to do would be to take a trip down there and show them what you have. But usually, they'll rip you off from my personal experience.

This is the way the real world works people:

1) You bring a used MPC (whatever), it's out-of-warranty, you don't have a box or manual, and it's obviously got some wear on it.

2) They sell NEW MPCs all day long for somewhere between $850 and $1000, which is a significant discount from the $1500 list price. GC's actual cost for the MPC is likely somewhere between $800 and $900.

3) They can probably sell your used MPC for something like $500 to $700, depending upon its condition.

4) Simple logic tells you that they have to make a profit of some kind, so you aren't going to get much more than $400 or so for it.

That's not "ripping you off" it's called "running a business".

You are much better off selling that joint here or on eBay.

Or, if you were in the market to buy something else, get more value if it's store credit. They do things like that sometimes. $400 cash, $475+ store credit.

Went To Guitar Center First They Tried To Offer Me $700 For My Roland Fantom X-6, I Can Count On 2 Hands To The Total Amount Of Times I've Made Full Beatz On It! I Mainly Used It As Midi Cuz A Friend Of Mines Came By One Day & Dropped A Heavy Supply Of VST's and Such On Me & Got Me Hooked, I Made A Post On EBAY & CRAIGSLIST, the CRAIGSLIST Post Had People Calling Like Crazy, I Sold It For $1200 Even...!

YA I used to work there I wouldn't. I remember some employees lowballing and then telling them they would buy it off them when they got off for 100 more!

Sheeit, I'd give you 7 bills right now and I already have a Fantom X6. For that cheap, might as well get a backup. But to the original poster, don't waste your time with GC. You've been warned. But sometimes those clowns do sell used gear to the public super cheap. When the MPC 2500's first came out, I copped 2 of them at $800 and $850 at seperate times when they were being sold new for $1995. That $850 one was fully blown to with DVD, memory, the whole nine. Lets just say I made a tidy profit!

Stores will give you 50% of what they will resell it for. That's standard procedure with any music store, not just GC.

You will always make out better selling it yourself.

actually... guitar center (atleast the one here) has a policy that will only offer you half of what they can sell an item for

so you take your MPC which they intend on selling for e.g.- $600
and offer you $300

now if they said they would offer you $450 or even $500 and make a 100-150 it would be understandable
but to offer only half of what they would sell it for is a rip off.

take it to CL, the local paper, EBAY or anywhere but GC

NEVER try to sell your gear at guitar center, not worth it at all, craigslist and if that doesnt work ebay
