SCSI Drive on my mpc 2000 burnt out. HELP!!

When I hook up an ext disk drive (iomega 100mb zip) I get a please wait message on my screen. That's where it ends. The mpc freezes up right there and I gotta reboot. Called the Akai rep. He said the scsi could be burned out. Has anybody ever swapped one of these out? It's on a mpc 2000. Not an xl. How hard is it, what should I do, what should I look for,parts,tools? IS IT POSSIBLE? Potential problems?
 
you assed out....call local fixing shops and see if they can fix it...u can count on not seein ur mp for a while...
 
First, try another zip or other scsi drive to see if it's the scsi device, your MPC's scsi chip/controller or even the cable. Believe it or not, the cable is the weakest link in the chain.

MAKE SURE YOUR ZIP DRIVE TERMANATION IS ON

ALSO WHEN ITS BURNTOUT IT MEANS THE FUSE IN YOUR SCSI IN THE MPC IS BLOWED
THAT WOLD BE THE PART U NEED

U CAN REPLACE IT YOURSELF

NEVER HOOK OR UN HOOK YOUR SCSI DEVICES WHILE THE MPC IS ON
 
is it me or is zip drives just unreliable..one day my isshh works the next minute it dont....
 
I've had three different zip drives for quite a few years and I've never had a problem. They still chug along. But, now my car is the real problem. Different strokes for different foks.

How hard is it to get to? Where can I find the fuse? Probably Akai, right? If not there then where? Is it a common fuse? Thanks.
 
if you need partsa for the mpc 2000 go to http://www.forat.com they customize your mpc's and fix problems.
