Ops, so, why the quote?
I have one. I gave it for a couple of weeks to my 10 years old nephew. He was amazed, and he didn't stop playing all the day.
In fact, D2 looks like a toy, and it's around $150.
On the pattern mode, you can assing 20 sets of 8 patterns (160) so you can store the same pattern on multiples ways. I use this to chain patterns without sound, but just control changes.
For example, I assign on area 1 of the touchpad, a crescendo on the filter and resonance, on the area 2, a decrease of the volume, area 3, change of the pitch, area 4, adding effect, area 5 effect tweak, etc, etc. . All these messages goes thru MIDI and make the control change on an external device, like my MOTIF or a KARMA. I storage groups of 8 control changes, also 8 program changes, 8 different sound efects, etc.
if you want to use it as a synth, assign to the touchpad patterns or tracks. You can assing around 320 different tracks on small maps of 8 tracks each one. When U press them, they are quantized to the nearest note, so it's cool to use it triggerin things like drums, cause they will inmediate sync with the music playing.
On the fading mode, connect the D1 to a sampler. There are 8 different fading mode. With some of them, you can control smooth changes of the volume of the poads of a sampler like SP 808.
With a little practice, the D2 can be a great MIDI controller, easy to reach (just touch the surface of the touch pad) on action. Also, it's compatible with all the groovebox series. you can storage the sounds of the MC 505 on it, transfer them easily, and it can storage also the patterns of all the series.
The buttons are better than the other of the MC series. They are not made of cheap plastic, but are very similar to the keys of the Electribe series.
well. I can't say.... Oh man, this s*it rocks!!!!, it/s the greatest synt ever,.... but, for $150, i say you have a great machine, if U travel, have imagination, like to play your music as a DJ with no rest and chain songs, and, if you have patience with its awful LCD screen....
I don't have the manual, so, I was almost blind when I bought it, because the LCD display is one of the worst I've ever seen. If somebody knows how to change waves of the sounds, it will be a great help, please if U have the manual search for this feature. What I do is edit the sounds on a MC 505 or 307 and then send them to the D2 with a DUMP function.
