Hi, I currently have a Pioneer DJM-500, which I've had for about a year now, but on the whole I don't really like it too much, it has too many bells and whistles. With this in mind, I was thinking of upgrading to a Rodec, possibly the MX 180 MK3, and was wondering if what any of you thought of the mixer.

Effectively what I'm looking for is a mixer that sounds really good, and doesn't have annoying effects units and flashing lights like the DJM.

If there are any other mixers you think are good alternatives to the Rodec that could also be cool, though I don't want anything from Vestax / Pioneer / Tascam / Gemini / etc.

Thanks

Pete

Hey,

The MX180 MkIII is a really excellent mixer, I've been considering one for ages, never gotten around to it tho (nor money :p) The eq on the Rodec is definetly one of the best available, extremely well sounding and precise.

If you want a clean well sounding mixer then thats the mixer to go with, not question about it. If you can manage just a little bit more extra bells and whistles, check out the Allen-Heath Xone series.

Cheers

i highly recomend the Xone:62 as an alternative to the Rodec... DJ Thy had the same dilema and eventually he chose the Xone
send him a PM, i think he is the one who can help you the most on this subject

IF YOU WANT AS LITTLE BELLS & WHISTLES AS POSSIBLE...

...go for this one, it's one of my favorite mixers:

Hi, I was thinking about a rane, but I've played with a couple in clubs, and not liked them too much. Also, I do want an EQ on each channel.

As for the Xone, I was thinking about that, but again, I think I want something a little less cluttered, I am a little sceptical about the 4 band eq, because I don't think I use it enough, I have a kill unit. I have used these, but they didn't entirely do it for me.

What I would really like to know though is what is bad about the rodec 180 III, so as I can compare that with the xones, which I have had more experience with. (I have only used a rodec once).

Thanks again.

Pete

There is absolutely nothing wrong about the Rodec mixers, besides the price tag. I won't advice against it. I just think Ranes are cooler;)

ok, so maybe not anything "bad" about them, but those little annoying things like the fact you can't turn off the lights on the DJM etc...

As much as I was a fan of Rodec before, if you're looking for the same layout, I'd say the Ecler MAC70/90v are better options. Same price class, but a little better than the MX.

The Rodec mX180/240 mkI and II are still belonging to the legend for me, the mkIII I don't like that much (feels flimsier, low headphone output, sound is a little less punchy).

Or if you want to spend more, go Xone, like I did. Or consider a Dateq GPRM, very nice also.

does Rodec get out of Europe? I'm from the states, and this is the first time I've heard of them.

Are they 220v?

Eh? The more flashing lights, the better in my mind. Forget the sound quality... it's an overrated parameter...

... never mind the content, FEEL the thickness ;)
