7.5...woulda gave it an 8 if the wordplay wasn't faulted with the pluralization. It was a clever idea, regardless of the score I gave it.

no it not, not with the writers and producers on that album

When it reaches to the point that you have to come out of your show pocket in order to fund your own project and also get support from non-musical corporations the whole purpose of a major label system is just about obsolete. When your paying like that your suppose to have your own label situation with the majors being used for distribution only while you maintain copyright/master copy ownership. If Rihanna is suppose to be one of the leading examples of 'new success' in the business then you know its really over

This is a good lesson learned...Like The Cool Kids told me.."Major Labels aint shyt....Ppl I looked up too growing up are mad at their labels and they are broke as hell" - Mikey Rocks from The Cool Kids

I believe that. I guess if you're getting into the industry now, it's either a really good thing or a really bad thing.

If you can come up with the next big gameplan for profitting off of music, youre in good shape. But if you just sign to a label and keep getting your album pushed back, you're in trouble.

I didn't post the whole thing lol way too long what I posted is kinda long. It's crazy cause I read in the Sream fest 07 book that Ciara funded some of her Evolution album. Ciara got Bought out from Jazze Pha in 06 and in 08 finally cut any tides with her and her old manager. I hope all will be well with these sisters...

where was this from, could you post a link to it???

Yeah this sucks for her, Rihanna was signed right around the time the ship started sinking.

But just so you know, it's in both parties interest (the label & the non-musical corporations) to team up. The label gets money from them to use on their artists' projects and videos, and the other company gets to use music in their ads and do other sponsorships and events where they can have the artist attend. Win-win.

as i'm reading this, the video for "Don't Stop the Music" is on. strange. Hopefully she's not broke, but this video is pretty inexpensive lookin'.

Unless she's doin a "Scott Storch", I highly doubt she's broke.

I am amazed at the reason why people keep signing away their talent to these antiquated yesteryear entitities when the web has set people free to ditribute their own music. The only diff now is, if you have individual talent as an artist AND a marketing genius on the internet.

If so then you could build your own buzz and sell on your own digital label.

Well my point is the label is suppose to be the ones bringing in the third party corporations to the table but they didnt the management team did, Def Jam was set to leave her situation for dead. So at that point the artist and her management were funding their situation as if they were the label and if thats the case then the deal should be a P&D or at least an official joint venture instead of the normal 88/12 royalty split in the labels favor (and when you realize that every thing down to that cup of Starbucks the promo rep bought for you during your radio station visit is RECOUPABLE getting in the black with the label is next to impossible ). Instead not only are these labels not giving out the proper deals, they're now asking you to come up with the money AND they're taking a piece of your show and publishing money with their 360 deals. In the near future the next Rihanna's will WAKE UP and bypass the major system and bring the artist status up to where its suppose to be. Of course if you're just in search of a quick 15 minutes of fame and you're willing to be slutted out in the process ignore everything I just posted, get your vasoline and knee pads out and proceed lol....

Well that's because the major system is based on capitolizing off of the ignorant and uneducated. The ones searching for a quick MTV cribs life. The idea of putting in their own work doesn't equate because they want to be 'saved'. The SMART ones do realize that you now have direct access to the consumer so the middle man is obsolete.

Her last album has apparently sold 5.5 million copies worlwide. Considerigng the industry condition thats aloooooooot. If one album was sold for lets $10, she has grossed $55 million ... O.O

She just can't be worth $20 000. Well unless wikipedia is very wrong.
