HI

I have played with the NUmark cdx today for 1 hour. I will try to give you a unbiased, no-no comercial review of this cd player.

cdx_overview.jpg

WHen I saw it in the shop I thought....damned ...is this a cd player or is this a turntable? I was impressed. I have to say that the thing is bug and heavy. That is a good sign. It looked so big compared to the pioneers and the denons.

I pushed the start button and damned. This thing is fast and acts like a real turntable. So the first thing I did was this ' DJ-AL' trick used in the technics sldz video. NO delay/drag when touching the platter. The thing amazed me. It is a strong motor. YOu can feel it from my micheal jackson 'nose' to my big ' moonwalker' toe. Very impresive.
I started messing with the cdx. I did very ultra fast scratches with one hand, then I did the same **** with 2 hands and they I went crazy on it.....doing 7 forward spins and 7 backwards spins one after the other and guess what? No delay whatsover. It is fast and reliable. NO needle skips. :spin: Why doesn't it skip? I had one weird ffeeling......I was really asking myself....is this a cd player or is this a turntable? I could do abnormal stuff with it and trust me.....it will not skip. So I think the cdx basically gives new posiblities to the scratchers among us. New DJ's will love it cause moving the platter is like eating chocolate in DJ AL's bedroom. Just kidding. By the way, the DEnon is good player compared to the technics but I really need a 12 inch platter and a stronger motor. The cdx is strong! The only thing that I couldn't understand were the 'cue's' . The rest is self-explanatory. The cue button works and it respond instantly. NO messy buttons, just ugly. :smash:

Then I pushed the 'master key/pitch' and went scratching. No pacman sounds in the cdx!! :) The technics have them and screw up, but the numark cdx did not. I could hear the cdx laughing when I did abnormal scratching experiments with it. It was a piece of cake for the cdx and for me. So easy. The platter is way cool and the best of the whoel unit. THe platter is just amazing and it responds like a ttx. With the master pitch on , I increased the pitch to 80% and wen back to -70% and again I increased the picth to 66% and back and in the same time I did scratches and backspins on them. No F-Up artifacts whatsover! No yellow commodore 64 pacman or other techncis slpc sounds (yep...technics sldz should change their names into techncis slpc....pc=pacman. lol . I didn't knew Micheal Jackson was so funny after all those operations ) I was as happy as MIckey mouse doing a scratch on pluto's nose.

The feel is amazing as hell and heaven, but. THer is always a BUT!
I have to say that the lay-out of the cdx is weird and ugly. It' s a ugly turntable compared to the technics sldz, pioneers and denons. :smash: . The buttons are all right. The cue and stutter buttons are well build and respond to my needs. The other buttons (smart loop and the other smaller buttons) are too small and too pre-productish if you know what I saying. THey could have been designed with more care. They are ugly. that is all.
I do not like the pitch slider of the cdx. It is tooo way wobly and unstable. Next to the cdx was the technics 1200 and I moved that pitch slider up and down and well.....I love the technics slider. NUmark could have done a better job on this on. I do not say it is bad, just wobly. I guess every turntable has fixation and smoothing problems in the beginning. I guess after some time it will do just fine. It is also a matter of knowing the cdx and its secrets or should I say ' her' , cause the cdx looks like a girl. The red buttons and red lights. A bit like playmobil stuff to me. The lay-out seems cheap and plastic. But I touched the outer side of the cdx and it is hard as hell and stronly build. I guess.

The other I didn't like is the rotating pad of the effects unit which can be used to forward and backward tracks. The weird thing is that you need to push the ' search' button evrytime you change track. the cdx turns off the red light of the search button everytime you go to the next track. That is just a bit weird. I know that the wheel can also be used for effects, but I thihnk there should have been a switch to turn that on the whole time. I also miss the functionality of the denon in the cdx. I mean....you can' decide how fast you forward a song. If you want to forward, let's say from 1 sec to 2 min and 45 sec you need to turn the wheel like hundred times to get to that point. I prefer the standrad cd buttons found in analog ****.
To be honoust, the effects are cool at first, but you will not use them after a while. They are just too simple. Instead of effects, they could have used a ' sampler' or something like that.
Don't get me wrong. Evrything works and maybe it is a question of getting to know the cdx.

Another thing is that let's you are mixing instead of scratching, then of course you rotate the cdx and then forwarding tracks will be a pain in the ass. Why? Because the black box where the loop in and the loop out is situated just sit in the way the whole time. YOu need to have a inspector gadget arm to reach to the effects/forwarding wheel.
Again, the cdx is the best scratch cd player out there. It is damned ugly (ugly buttons, ugly lettertype, weird layout), but damned fast at the same time and realistic. I think at the end, you will be amazed bytthe quality of this deck. It feels like a turntable.

:badger:

HOw about the sound? As every cd player on the market today, you can notice some digital sound in the scratches. They are not so deep and analog you could say as the vextax or stantons. MAybe it will be improved in later updates, but I have to say......the feel of the unit is AMAZING! I won't recomend it for the mixers among us, cause the pitch slider is just not so detailed and stable. The scratchers and new wanna-be DJ's among us will love it.In the scractch digital domain, the cdx is the best. For mixing styles, I would recomend the pioneer (DJ tiesto uses digital pioneers by the way in his new single). Dj Tiesto is the best DJ at this moment.

I haven't seen the technics, so I can't say antyhing about them than what |I saw in DJ AL's marketingvideo. So I will review it later on.
I did saw the TTM from tascam and it is a fine piece of material. It was fun to use it, but it is just not what I am looking for . I need more freedom in dj-ing.

OK, that was it. IF you got any questions. Post them , cause I will asnwer them. :) . I accept questions from denon, pioneer and vestax representatives also! :spin:

What the hell does Tiesto, Michael Jackson or Micky Mouse have to do with the CDX?

I dont think an hour using the CDX justifies the right to write a review of that length hence you just repeated yourself over and over again, you could of written it in half the amount of words.

Funny, in the next quote you say you haven't tried the Techs?!

How in sweet holy hell is Dj Tiesto the best dj at the moment? If you're going by that moronic "Top 100 djs" list, then I have no choice by to completely disregard everything you have ever posted.

This is the most incoherent piece I have ever read in my life. It gives absolutely no useful information whatsoever to the consumer. Who cares about how the thing looks? This isn't a fashion show. You don't pick equipment based on how it looks. Second off, the "observation" about turning it sideways for mixing is just ridiculous. Third off, nobody cares what Tiesto is using. Use what works for you. Fourth off, just give up.

Holy crap, Doc that sums up my thought completely. Props to Doc..

Somewhat off topic, I also ask why some guys are so hard up to play a cd player, with no toe arm, in "battle mode". When in fact this renders the player usless as far as ejecting the cds, and/or put excess strain on the unit by constantly moving them to remove the cd. But if set up to avoid this, these guys would have to have really long arms to reach the right players cd and a big gap between their left cd and the mixer. This seems to me defeating the point of battle mode.

I was talking about the digital techs. That one wasn't available in the shop.

I heard tons of good replies in other forums, so I am happy to have helped out in this forum.
At least I am trying.

Secondly, you guys don't have any sense of humor. I am just wondering how many in here are DEnon guys. lol. Or maybe DJ AL called his gang to unite and FIGHT and destroy ' EL HOLANDES'. That won't work, guys. I am the king of pop....the best.

If you hate the cdx, that is your problem, but do not hate my posts as this is a free forum and everybody is free to post reviews...bad or good.

If you don't like it...buy a denon or rent a sex movie.
I don't care what you think. I know lots of people here read new information about the cdx and that is the only thing that matters. I posted new facts and that is what a forum should look like.

DL AL>>>>>>>>>> try out some swedish chocolate (video). LOL. YOu can' stand cdx being better than the denons, huh?

And DJ tiest is the best trance DJ at this moment. It is officialy known. Check out his website. THe pioneers are tehs most used cd player in the club.....that means a lot. If denon would be the standard, I am sure you guy swould post tons of stupid posts about how great denon was. BUT. that isn't the case. Pioneer rules the market. YOu can't take that away by forcing potential customers to swallo hardcore marketing tricks in forums. In the end that is annoying.

Good for you DENON!

PIONEER!PIONEER!
PIONEER!
PIONEER!
PIONEER!
PIONEER!
PIONEER!

(denon is not the most used player in clubs) lol

I am a Pioneer guy (2 CDJ1000mkIIs) and probably the least likely guy to call Denons a perfect deck (I also have two DN-s3000s). I've been tossed off of the DN-s5000.com board long before you ventured there...probably before you even heard of Denon. That still doesn't matter overall seeing as your post still is absolutely meaningless in terms of a review. It's just a bunch of sentences thrown together at random and a bunch of bashing. I think you need to get some more experience under your belt before you just decide that what you say necessarily matters to anybody on here. Let me ask you this. Do you actually own any of the decks that you've listed? Have you thoroughly used any of the decks in question for more than 1 hour at the local shop?

Second off, Tiesto was voted #1 DJ in a magazine poll. There are plenty of DJs out there that could absolutely clean his clock in terms of mixing skills and abilities. A poll doesn't make somebody the #1 DJ in the world. Sure, there are more Pioneers in the clubs. So what? A DJs skill isn't derived from the equipment that they use. You also do realize that Tiesto has also been known to use a Denon dual CD player (not the DN-d9000). Probably don't.

Point is, when you have it, you have it. If you don't have it, it doesn't matter what you're spinning on. It's still going to sound like sh*t.

Doc

Oh, and by the way El Holandes, I'm one of those guys who would whipe the floor with you. "King of pop"...pffft. "The best"...pffft.

Doc

MMMM I am lost,

Let me sum up what the first post and the previous post, three up from this, says in short.

First post

1) praise numark

previous post three up from this post
1) claims to help people
2) then kinda praises techs
2) then bust on a-l and denon
3) then praise tiesto (lots of poor spelling here including his name)
4) then praise Pioneer

Does this all make sense because I can't figure it out... (how does this help the consumer?) All I can say is may be multiple personality disorder.

Doc can you figure this out?????

I think Hollandes should be banned to prevent further damage to this community - he can´t mean what he is posting and so he´s making a fool of all users here

please, for the love of mike, ban that guy. his posts are the worst things on this site. they're like the worst mentos ad....um....made worse. and then having to do with dj equipment. or. um. something.

please--ban him. i'm beggin ya.

Are there any other moderators besides Dj Thy, Gene-Pool and Tricky? I haven't seen them post here in ages. We need a moderator who actually reads these posts and can ban incomprehensible d!cks like El Holandes.

I'll talk to Thy later today. But, you have to realize, freedom of speech usually wins out most of the time. The guy has a right to an opinion, no matter how illogical and inane it may be. If he can't defend it, hey, let him be blown away by the others.

Doc

i hate when people start whining to ban someone cuz they don't like what he is saying... ****... its not like el holandos is postin non stop calling people bitches or something...

lets face it.. not everyone gets along.. i think itd be better if others who had a problem with people learned some self-restraint...
