I have to say this. Most of you guys talk about diffrence in the genre's go with each other and where they from. Point is not where you from is where your at and where your going. And frankly the reggaeton genre is going places. and getting huge. You say with out dance hall reggaeton wouldn't be anything. well gracias to dancehall and reggae for helping the genre forum but now to see where this genre will take it. Many transform of this genre is being created. and it has been becoming more complex. harder dembows more effective melodies, truely and art compaird to 6 years ago hard dembow and ****ty as melodie. Listen to the latest cd's of reggaeton the beats are truely art. and if u do not belive that is art you need to stop producing and maybe open a limonaid stand cus this is not for you. fact is reggaeton has risin over the levels of Reggae//Dancehall from new channel MTV3 many many of it's own shows on english tv. radio stashion across the united states. clothes line, i could keep going. and not just in the states. a friend of mine from albania way, across the way. is feeling the genre. and will be the first albanina reggaeton mc from oye productionz coming this fall so look out for him bye the way. in switzerland. holland. spain in many places are felling the movement. italy ask djfresh. right there in sicily and in greece. of course so has reggae reached europe and dominated germany but so have we. and were killing. U SAID IT.. Reggaeton is changining alot. Its not going to happen right away, but if you listen to the beats from 2003, and the beats now, there more complex. And many producers are getting real creative with their samples and there drum patterns. People are really seeing the power of FL STUDIO..lol.. But nah, I feel reggaeton is going to really take of next year. If you go around driving,I guarentee you'll find alot of people blastin the reggaeton. Well I kno, for most hispanics, reggaeton is the number one music of choice. And hispanic are now being the number one minority. So whether reggaeton turns mainstream or not, reggaeton is going to be around for a while because everyone is listining to it. But I do believe reggaeton is crossing over slowly, it seems like every pop artist wants to make a reggaeton remix with Luny Tunes..lol ..Cough Cough Paris Hilton... i dont really understand how you guys can say it is "taken" from another style,yes there would be no reggaeton without dancehall,but i dont think reggaeton just stole it and changed the name.every genre has evolved from another and reggaeton has elements from many different types of music bachata,merengue,salsa,dancehall,hip hop,etc.so i dont really see how its "taken/stolen" from dancehall.

Because dancehall hear are ultimate genre and they try to take pride in it bye saying they first created it. Because they can't create it now. jealous. because our genre has became greater then there genre. straight up.

I dont think their are any dancehall or reggae artist complaining about it. What I find strange is that when Jungle came out in the early 90's a lot of Jamaican artist were bitching about it. Mind you this was there own black brothers making this music and giving respect to reggae, dub and dancehall pioneers. Not the case to this socalled reggaeton, they outrigth refuse to give credit where it is due. Even Dubstep gives reggae, dub and dancehall more respect. And when people as stupid questions about which one is better they wonder why I get angry.

Reggaeton does not have to have a dembow. There is more things that create the genre. so don't give dancehall crediet for a hit reggaeton song. if it sounds good it's reggaeton if it sounds ****ty it's dance hall. thats how u tell diffrence.

well i don't know enuff about dancehall to say which is better, i just think itz jus ignorant to come in da thread to down either genre, but i'm a reggaeton head, when i first heard it i got hooked, reggaeton is mah favorite genre, an hopefully i'll do reggaeton music fulltime soon. For a lot of hispanic ppl it's hard to see their etnic origin due to the mixture, that's why they profile as hispanic.

but don't worry, the same is happening here in europe and in big parts of the rest of the world. Race mixing and multiculturality is getting the world standard, and i like it mostly. I'm a Belgian from French/German/Jewish origin and my last girlfriend was a Roma (nomadic indian tribes, often called gypsies by whites) and my future girl may be something else, we will see...
