re: Using Recycle 2.1 for chopping and loading sampling in the Akai Mpc 2000

What's up yall? I have a major problem that is stopping my production flow! I use Propellerhead's Recylce 2.1 to chop my samples up since u can't make the MPC 2000 auto chop (if so, pls tell me how to do it) . Then i save it to my zip drive and open it up in my Akai Mpc 2000. When I make the Recycle 2.1 program chop up the sample I save it to label and name each chop as a regular wav file.
But, when I have to open it up in the Akai Mpc 2000 it says, "Unknown format". Why would it say unknown format when it is a regular wav file? I even shortened the file names and renamed them! I used other programs like Cool Edit, Soundforge, and Goldwave and it was never an issue opening up the files. The only pain in the butt things about those programs was that you could not mark them to save each individual chop that was made? How can I fix this? What can I do?

Can Soundforge do the same thing as Recycle? Pls someone help me out? Or email me with some suggestions @ remysteel1@aol.com re: chopping help w/ Recycle and Mpc. It would be greatly appreciated!!! :sing:  :sing:  :sing:

[1] Chop in recycle
[2] Save the chops as individual .wavs
[3] Make a program in MPC editor with the individual chops.
[4] Export the program and samples to your desired media from MPC Editor.

ummm, take a look at that file again. you can import WAV files to recycle. But once you do anything to em, recycle saves them as a REX file. Acid can do something similar, their format is "Acidized WAV"

the reason your MPC can't read the REX file is because REX is too new a format.

like sammyb90 said, you can chop and save seperate as WAVS. OR do what I do, just hook midi up between the MPC and computer, and you can trigger the slices with the MPC pads.

After you click export and click save as wav it should go to another window where you can choose your sample rate and bit depth. Make sure it's at 44100 and 16 bit depth.

also make sure that your not naming the wav files with too many characters in it.

I did basically the same thing on my 1k. Except, if you export it in the akai program format, you just have to load it into mpc editor and it assigns everything for, making it a decent amout easier.

cosign. most samplers, including the MPC line (maybe 4000 uses 24 bit, i dunno) and the MV series use 16/44.1 format. this trips alot of people up.

How do you make a program in the Akai Mpc 2000 editor? How do u even get into the editor?

Hey Lumberjack & Everyone else:
What program do u use when you trigger ur mpc as a midi controller and how do u assign each sample to each pad? Can you tell me step-by-step how u did that? If you don't mind? Also, can you export samples the same way you do in Soundforge as you could in Recycle?

well... thats what MPC Editor is for - making MPC programs... download the demo and try it out, then pay the $30 for the full program.

Its a computer program get it from midicase.com

Do all that but remember to convert WAVs to SND files. The 2000 only recognises PGMs with SNDs I think. Plus theres a new program about called rextompc (or something like that) that converts rex files to MPC PGMs.

Just use MPC EDITOR it will convert all your sounds to SND's and they will load into the MPC. Just make sure you don't convert the Wav's to SND's before you load them to the zip when using the MPC EDITOR.

well i dont use MPC. I use a MV-8000, but for triggering samples on your computer with the pads its probably the same thing. All you need is a midi interface to do the talking.

I use reason. Reason has a panel at the top of the rack that allows you to assign different instruments to all 16 channels in a midi bus, and allows you to switch between 4 buses. So basically just set your MPC to send midi out and then go into reason and set it to receive. From there its all a matter of resampling or syncing.

I'm not a MPC user so i dont know the specific settings.

One thing you need to so is save your chopped up sample out of recycle and import it into reason's Dr. REX player. then activate "select slice with MIDI" and make sure your **** is all working. The reason manual helps out alot.

MIDI Dump

This takes a whilr, but you can dump the slices via MIDI. Slow, unglamorous blah blah blah but it works. Keep this trick in mind for older machines. Saved my ass on my EPS classic.

peace
