I would be shocked if there wasnt ghostwriters/songwriters/producers. In major releases there is lots of money on the line. Dr Dre is a great example and most cats dont think he is wack for using writer and producer teams.

So my question is ? is the words of the preacher anymore less effective because he didn't write the bible? his delivery reached the hearts of many and he was a usefull and effective tool in reaching the masses

praise him for making the music available but don't give him the artistic credit if he didn't make it.

LOL @ people trying to take up for dude if he didn't write all his stuff ,what has hip hop come to??? I personally find it super weak if this is actually true because the dude comes off as very cocky ,cuz I mean how are you gonna not gonna write your own lyrics as a rapper????thats kinda fake to me being that he is marketed mainly as a rapper that can sing a bit ,unlike Puffy(who is a business man) and Dre(who is a producer) I see if its a hook or a little help with tweaking up your written verse for a recording but as a rapper you gotta write your own verses ,but anyway maybe the context of this is different ,maybe the "supposed" ghostwriter wrote something for drake to SING ,who knows...

But, see, that's what "music business" is about. When things get technical anyone can "co-write" a song with you. It's the equivalent of producers who don't make their beats, but put together the final product.

I can tell you you need to say "wooooo" as an adlib after this bar, or tell you to take out a few words so the verse flows smoother and become a "co-writer".

I guess I'm just not enough of a Drake fan to see any surprise in him possibly getting direction with his raps. Y'all heard Brandy on Timbo's album? She "wrote" her verses, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone came out tomorrow saying the helped. Drake is a canadian tv star that broke big into hip hop. Why would the "business" minded guys not set him up for perfection?

Those 60 year olds in suits don't beleive in merits, they beleive in money. They're the reason Keyshia Cole got all that vocal coaching that makes her sound more professional, but failed to realize it also made her lose that soulful heartfelt pain and struggle she once had in her music.

Not saying this is or isn't true with Drake, not "defending" dude, cause i don't care, just saying that if you looking for a rapper who wrote every word to every song they ever made circa 1998 when hip hop turned commercial, you'll be looking for a few lifetimes. Harsh reality.

What's funny is, most of the time the songs your favorite rapper has help writing end up being singles and the songs on the album that get skipped by die hard fans anyway.

I just don't see how it's possible that someone could write a song for Alecia Keys... and not write his own stuff. cmon... or did he pay someone to write a song for him to say he wrote for Alecia Keys?

In the same sense, Alicia Keys has written songs for others...maybe that's just using all your resources and you wouldn't understand until someone takes time out their day to write an amazing song specifically for you?

^^^People lie about it happening all the time. People who don't know better think it's the truth. How much can someone pay you upfront to walk away from royalties on a potential hit? Because if you ain't on paperwork, you don't get paid. Even work-for-hire is creditted.

I KNOW BETTER THAN ANYONE.

Khia Shine wouldn't be getting checks if his name wasn't connected to the song. Beleive that.

Ghostwriters are like bigfoot. You know somebody who claims to have seen them, but they don't really exsist. Co-Writers who are overlooked but well creditted come a dime a dozen. Ask Rico Love.

Drake may or may not write but he got a whole lot of people OPEN! Lyrically I think I give him some props but its something about him I don't dig. I saw an interview once and the way he dropped the N bomb in the video adding the forbidden ER instead of the A made me cringe. Brothas don't add the ER I don't give a damn if you from Canada or not.

I guess while as a lyrical cat I believe you should write your own sh*t but then again when I look back at it, Ice Cube had some other cats on the pen with him., one being Del Tha Funky Homosapien. I can give Cube a pass because he has written a ton of CLASSICS!

I forgot what I was gonna post by the time I got to the reply box. This story is that interesting.

Something about quoting the Barbie Doll line. Oh well.

Not commenting on the Drake situation specifically...

But I wish more wack rappers would get GOOD (ghost)writers. I listen to music to be entertained, and like TV, I don't expect a true representation of reality through something meant only to entertain. I'd rather hear a dope verse that's written by someone else than a wack one written by the rapper.

Some of you aren't ready for this business...

I know for a fact that Drake on his own is a talented writer. The fact that that he may enlist the help of one of the big name pens doesn't take away from that... In fact that happens in the production world as well.

Kayne enlisted the help of Timbaland for "stronger"
Will.I.AM enlisted the help of David Guetta for the E.N.D Album

Does that take away from the fact that they are still great producers on their own?

Those are just examples off the top of my head.Stuff like that definitely happens more often then not.

I agree "some of yall ain't ready for this business."
