I'm sure Reason 5 will come with some type of "uncrackable" source that will be cracked. They should've done the dongle. While it was the main reason I didn't buy record, I would've bowed down and accepted having to use one if it came in R5.

I got a friend running Pro Tools HD cracked/rigged using a Focusrite interface with TDM Plugs running off a Receptor box(don't ask me how, but it works, perfectly).

Reason and Recycle have always used the disk protection it just sucks lol people just copy the disk image to their pc and it tricks the software lol

that's what i'm sayin'...makes no sense for the FLAGSHIP program to have NO dongle while a "secondary" "less powerful / feature-rich" program gets the dongle...

oh well...can't knock the downloaders when companies don't even protect themselves...

props probably want people to download reason illegally. people who pirate software and use it for a long time are then more likely to purchase it.

i started out using a crack of reason and after about 2 months i bought it.

i think that overtime reason might lose users if it were to put copy protection on it. i'm sure props have though long and hard about the dongle and reason 5.

propellerheads are kind of going for the lower end of the market with reason. it's a relatively cheap, all-in-on program that is low on resources. that isn't say it is a "beginners program" or anything like that. it's just that it might be easier to get into for a total novice than if they went and got cubase or logic or something.

but like i've said before you can get incredibly deep with reason. the routing options in it, due to its semi-modular design, kill almost any DAW other there. it's all down to the end user.

sometimes people equate ease of use with how good a product is. that isn't the case at all. propellerheads should be applauded for developing such a well designed product.

i own logic and i still prefer record and reason over over it. and logic is a mazng but i feel that there enviroment feature is amazing as it is can be a little to overwhelming for many of it users. plug i dont really enjoy midi in logic like that. the hyper editor should just been in the piano roll instead its in a seperate window which makes no sense and now i will say this logic stock sounds loops and plugins are amazing for straight out the box. logic has to step its game up on audio editing as well. but logic still can compete with pro tools any day of week.

don't all apps have similar / equal learning curves?

are some easier to learn than others? or is that just a rumor?

i've heard Logic get more praise than any other app here on FP over the years...

that's wussup...

even Tweakheadz himself is a Logic user...and his site is easily one of the most helpful music production websites...

It has been over the last 2 or 3 years. Before that it was all about Fruity Loops Pro Tools and to some extent Cubase. I don't really like Logic. My boy showed me how to use it at his crib where he uses Logic but I could never really get down with it the way I wanted to. So when and if he and I do a song together we usually just rewire because he also has Reason (but he dont know how to use Reason that well) lol

Logic is cool and amazing to chop w the / key
But I like pro tools better
I'm hooked on xpand 2 and use reason rewired
Pro tools just is simple logic is a little complex

I'm talking about being closer to an all in one product because I always been sampling but bouncing back from program to program has been sort of annoying since I was coming from an mpc. This is perhaps the closest thing to it.[/COLOR] And I feel you on the Dr. Octo but I end up using the NNXT because of the editing.

That's cool Cablitz, as long as it works for you and make your life easier I am so happy for you. I want the Reason/Record peeps to be as happy with this product as I am.

in regards to different DAWs having different learning curves. of course they do but at the end of the day it is all down to the individual. some people think ableton is the easiest program in the world but the few times i've tried it i've been lost (i have to give the demo a proper go some weekend i have time).

i visit a lot of music forums and i've seen the momentum shift over the years. nowadays the most praised programs seem to be ableton and logic. ableton seems to have morphed from an application that was originally developed for live use into something that is encompassing everything in the production world. although some people would call that bloatware...

i've also seen reason and flstudio trade places in terms of "e-respect". a couple of years ago reason was generally thought to be superior to flstudio. but nowadays it is completely the other way around. but because imageline have been so frequent with their updates in comparison with propellerheads flstudio has overtaken reason in terms of features. in fact the only place i still read "what's wrong with flstudio" threads are on mainly hip-hop forums.

i think with the release of record last year and this new update for reason and record propellerheads have brought some new things to the table. i wonder how long it will take them to move onto the next update (although this one isn't even here yet...) and i wonder what sort of features other DAWs will have by that time.

nowadays the most praised programs seem to be ableton and logic

which is ironic because those are the two programs that supposedly have the highest learning curves...

PT is very intuitive.

yeah...but i wouldn't be caught dead trying to make beats FROM START TO FINISH ON A CONSISTENT BASIS using ANY version of pro tools...lol.

PT + = recording / editing

PT - = composing
