No. You've got it all wrong. When I say Live can chop "Rex" style, I mean just that. You might as well say that Live does actually have Recycle built in, but it just doesn't write Rex files. Take a look at this movie. What I'm talking about starts at 5:15:

I have found that people often confuse chopping with "beat Slicing". You could always chop within Reason, without ever opening Recycle. Beat slicing is a different beast altogether, and Recycle always made that a cinch to do.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. I think I just wrote it wrongly or differently. What I'm just sayin is, there's also a way to make slices in Kong. And it's also easy that you're not going to use Recycle anymore. But I still use Recycle though so that my samples will be REXed, and I don't have to worry if I lose my WAVs.

It basically just meant, say in Kong, just make multiple copies of a sample by COPYING it and pasting it on the other pads, edit each sample in there own Sample Editor and set their markers to have a SLICE that you want. It's not like how would you do in Recycle or using the transients in Live, but I still find it easy and fun to have that in Reason. and you can do that also on NN-XT.

Mr Gibbs I see now what you mean Kong is an MPC Killer. It is one hot piece that Props did, I am going to have so much fun, I am so glad I bought that MPK 88, I have the pads and heavy weight piano keys at my finger tips. That thing is like working on a Motif workstation, it's just a controller and I love the fact it has Reason preinstalled set so when I turn the knob to Reason/Record the transport works automatically, I am going to have fun!

I CAN'T WAIT TO TEST THAT TIME STRETCH CAPABILITY !!! HOT!

Ok. I see what you mean. That's Sampling 101. That's what everybody did before Recycle and other slicing programs came into play.

yeah brother its mpc killer in the right hands wait till all the cominator patches that will come with that device mixer the filters of thor and eqs and. the reverb thats built in is fairly decent as well.

danoc how you find the pads on the MPK 88? i know on other MPKs the pads are weak sauce but i know the MPK 88 has different keys so maybe it has better pads too.

i don't use my MPC anymore and am actually contemplating selling it. not because of this update though. just because i've made the switch to almost 100% hardware now. it's almost a hassle to have hardware in the studio (aka the room with my laptop and gear... hardly a studio). but i wouldn't exactly call kong an MPC killer, as great as it is. i see it more of a motu bpm, battery, fxpansion guru, maschine killer than an MPC killer tbh.

the MPC can't compete with software in terms of features. it hasn't been able to compete for a long time. but the advantage that it has over software is that you're using hardware and you're away from the computer. you can take the computer out of the equation. some people still like working on an MPC despite all its shortcomings.

there has been software killing the MPC for years but people still use the MPC because they like that hardware feel. although kong is great i don't see it as the ultimate MPC killer. but it has just put another nail in the MPC coffin...

i hear you on that the reason i say kong is the mpc killer because when its combine with the regroove mixer and reason sequencer it kills the mpc in all functionality.

Mr Gibbs I almost cried when I seen the reverb on that piece, with the compressor together with that, awhhhhhhhhhhhhh man it's on when I get that piece. Ima be doing hiphop, Dance Hall, RnB, Pop, Urban/Euro Dance Joints in that piece.

Oh on the MPK88, I love the pads bro, I see a lot of dudes complain they are not think like the MPC................ IT'S NOT THE FREAKIN MPC! The pads are cool on it, I don't complain I just get to work, and being I am good on the pads man I just get busy, only thing that bugged me was the note repeat function doesn't work properly and I hear that from a lot of people. so I don't worry.

Well my MPC is going to be used a whole lot more, because I just got Hollywood strings and I will be using my MPC + PT to make music. I love the MPC. Funny thing is if people have an MPC and don't like the pads on the MPK's or MPD's they can use their MPC to trigger the Redrum etc. I hear ya though, you gotta do what works for you.

To tell you the truth, Redrum on shaping say a kick or snare does it better than the MPC. I mean you can do it with the MPC but it doesn't have that same sound as what Redrum would do it, and now Kong?
A lot of people just use the MPC just for the drums, I use the MPC like it's Protools, and I have made whole songs arranged like if one did it in Protools, It's a computer also, but this Kong thingy is quite interesting and it comes with some stuff I am feeling. The MPC I basically use it for it's great sequencing and I am in love with the pads, and it's note repeat. I am quick on it and I will use it still. I have two ways to produce and I am loving my set up, I am complete now and don't have to buy anything else.
When I need to work fast, Record is my tool, when I have time MPC + Pt is the tool.

you can buy it on craigslist if want or an ad in the paper. All that matters is that its a registerable copy to props.
