If you're just making beats, sure. But if you're building a studio - you have a long way to go lol.

there are lots of different kinds of studios. what kind of studio do you mean in many cases what I am saying is totally on point. If you are tracking vocals I'd add a mic to the equation and a preamp and say exactly what I said before. Really the only time where I'd consider having a ton of hardware around would be with recording drums and even that would be mostly dynamic mics. No reason why you can't totally mix itb. If you want to or not is a totally different conversation.

Yeah I meant more of a recording or mixing studio.

And I wouldn't call one mic and one preamp a "tracking" studio either.

I wouldn't call one mic a tracking studio really either but more of a pre production studio. Thats why I said what kind of studio are we talking. You can get a lot done with one mic one preamp and a midi controller.

3 months in and here's what I have thus far:

I'm looking to get an Akai pad to play my chops on as well as a set of turntables. I know pretty much nothing about the latter so if anyone could link me to a couple sets or something that'd be sweet.

It's strange how absent Technics 1200's are from most peoples' studios. Not hatin', just sayin'. That's kind of the foundation.

Many of the contributors in the thread probably don't sample and have no need for turntables for listening purposes either..
And for some reason, people who sample tend to cop an usb turntable when they start. Maybe they think that it is somehow easier to transfer sound with something that has "usb"..
And of course, there are other good turntables besides 1200's.

Yeah in 2011 most don't want to sample either because they feel it lacks creativity, they have issues with clearing stuff or they don't want to dig. hell most who sample don't even buy turntables they just download stuff off the net because its free. turntables and records cost money they supposedly don't have.

Get a LPD8! I love mine, best bang for buck imo! I also just got a MPK Mini as well. :)

Pretty simple setup. Planning on upgrading stuff as money comes in.

Behind the drums that need new heads really bad, there's a bass leaning against the wall. Also a bunch of more drums stacked in the closet out of frame.

There's also some stuff missing from these pictures. An acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and multiple mics.

Do you rip your vinyl to the computer? I'd like to know some turn tables you'd recommend I reaaalllly want some. I heard belt drives take a min to get going tho...
hey bro, sorry i just seen this.
as far as ripping vinyl, if thats all you need a turn table for, than really ANYTHING will work as far as the actual record player. i mean that. remember i told you this becuase somebody with a serious preference is gonna point you in one direction or the other and them thangs can get costly. Sure my technics are great but i am also using them for blending and trying to dj with them. if i was soley gonna use a record player for ripping vinyl, just get you a Stanton T.62B which you can get for like around $200 brand new. the important thing (sound quality wise) is gonna be the needle and the phono amp. ortofon needles are great but they will tear up vinyl and if its vinyl you use often that is a raw deal. I just got some shures (I forget the numbers, i'll post them later) and an mbox 2 mini.

The problem with Technics is they are super expensive. Even for old Mk2's. Also, with todays digital DJ gear you can get something that will integrate into our digital studios much cheaper/easier. I'd still love a pair with a Rane mixer though.

Why don't you sell some stuff then?

because I use them for sound design mainly. Making weird synths sampling them into the EPS at a insanlely low bit rate and then create multi samples for the NNXT. Working on a refill with this method but I doubt it will see the light of day lol

I've had to downgrade since we moved into a smaller place but here is what I am working with for now:
