So here's how my studio desk evolved, with some gear pics too...
You can find the complete gear list in my signature. Here's the pics.

I have the Gemini "L" Computer Desk from Staples (around $75.00).
Here's a picture from Staples website (link to their site too if you click it).

I mounted the keyboard tray under the main section, with the shelf above it. I got a thick dowel from Home Depot, cut it, and put it under the shelf as several support pillars. I then put my Keystation Pro 88 on the main section, and my monitors on the shelf above it. Here's the pic. M-Audio Keystation Pro 88, Yamaha MSP5 monitors, dual computer monitors. (NOTE: these pics are all from right before, during, and after my rack project, not when I first got the desk).

I put all my rack mountable gear and my Trigger Finger on the left hand side. I didn't like my gear sitting in a pile. Plus the Trigger Finger was in front of the rack gear. It wasn't very ergonomic. But I still left it like that and used it for over a year that way. Here's the pic.

The cables were out of control. Here's a pic of the rear.

So I drilled a couple holes in the desk for cables. I also screwed hooks on the underside of the desk to hold the cables, and routed the cables through the hooks, and through the holes in the desk. I then bought a couple 14 space rack rails online, and built a couple of racks. The racks consist of a wood frame, rack rails mounted to them, and black cloth nailed to the outside, leaving the top open. I put all my rack mountable gear in there, and attached them to the left side of the desk. I also put a fan in there, behind the mixer. It blows through and gives a nice breeze to the chair. It also keeps the equipment cool. Here's the pic. Mackie 1642 VLZ Pro mixer, M-Audio Delta 1010 breakout box, M-Audio Midiman Midisport 2x4 MIDI interface, Roland Fantom XR, Yamaha Motif Rack ES, Behringer MINIAMP AMP800 headphone amp, Behringer MINIMON MON800 headphone monitor with talkback, Korg Triton Rack and M-Audio Trigger Finger.

The back of the racks is covered by a seperate piece of cloth. It's not nailed at the sides or the bottom. This allows me to easily lift it up whenever I want to access cables. I also put a skirt around the bottom part of the desk to hide the computer, plugs, and cables. Here's the pic.

I'll have to get some more pictures so you guys can see how the rest of the room looks. I also need to get some pictures of the 2 vocal booths (in 2 seperate rooms- my main control room in all these pics is in the middle).

I should get some pictures of my portable setup too.

All my stuff is listed and detailed in the link in my sig. Let me know what you think...

What program do use to make your beats??? and thats a nice setup im getting that same desk tommorow

You know that "Professionals" are gonna exploit it?
