I wanted to mix trance, drum&base and scratch with this mixer......is the Vestax Pmc-170a any good for all those things? Does anyone have any personal expearence? OR any advice on a different mixer?:(
 
Cant skratch on this mixer, you will blow out the fader real quick
 
But if you are just mixing than it will do the job.Myself I prefer rotary mixers but thats me..
 
Dude Im clueless when it comes to scratching(even though I went to high school with Grand Wizard Theodore the inventor of it)but start a new thread and ask.Boy am I old.
 
What you can try is this mod that someone posted on another thread (called "Ya like the Focus Fader?"). What that mod allows you to do is swap the vestax's crossfader with stanton's Focus fader (its a scratch crossfader). That's what i'm thinking of doing myself when i end up getting the pmc170a since i can't afford an Ecler mixer :mad:

I really don't know what kind of results this mod will have but i don't think it's gonna be too great since the 170a doesn't have a curve control:confused:

what does everyone else here think?

(oh, by the way, in order to apply the mod, you need to buy a different faceplate for the vestax so that the focus fader can fit...)
 
actually its not possible to fit a focus fader into a pmc170a. the modifications that allow focus faders to be fitted into non-stanton mixers rely on the fact that those mixers already have a VCA cross fader. the pmc170a does not have VCA circuitry so it would be with huge expense and trouble to get a focus fader into a pmc 170a.

I think i'm in the same situation as you Punz... I tried the 170a again during the weekend and i was very dissapoited... it seriously feels crappy... the knobs and faders feel like there's too much friction... i hated the feel... The Numark 3002 felt nicer... and also looks much nicer. And for some reason i've seen it labeled as a scratch mixer somewhere on the internet... Have you seen it Punz?

Nope i havent Endover. But you should really look at the post Labelled "Mixer" that is up there. The Roland Dj-1000 is wicked. (we both should invest in that)
 
Nope... not me, the dj1000 costs 850$ in my area and the numark dm3002x costs like 350$ (the pmc170 is 460$). I'm gonna stick to the Numark even though i know vestax is a better quality mixer. I take care of my equipement so ... its ok

You can also take a look at the Rane ttm-52 or 54 very solid scratch mixers. If not try the Numark SM series with the optical fader these are also very good mixers. :cool:
 
yeah, look at the proSM3... great mixer!!!
-40db cuts, 3 band EQ, 3 channels, optical cf, really durable, clean and clear sound, will work for ages before you'll have to replace it.
 
in my opinion (i have lots) the SM-3 is a very well built, although poorly designed mixer. The cross fader is usless you scratch and are very used to. if the mixer is not perfectly level the cross fader will slide across, even blowing lightly on it will cause it to move, making it next to impossible to juggle on(and its meant for hip hop!). it is imposible to tell visualy what is cued in the dark(important for drunken club DJs). no XLR mic input. the blue light is blinding when used in the dark(I can just afford to cover it with a penny). who uses TRS outpts? they should have used the standard XLR. the headphones don't crank like a proper(non-bedroom) mixer, you literaly need the V700 just to hear any thing in a club/party. further more, what kind of moron would position the EQs so that are not directly above the channel fader, it should be a little bit more natural. i love being negative!!!!! it sounds decent though and is the first well built Numark, also I think alot of my issues are delt with on the SM-1&2
 
you are right about the DJM-300(best mixer going for $360 price range in my opinion, just lacking balenced outputs), although the mixer I was talking about was the Numark SM-3.
