Play audio from multiple programs simultaneously?

Hi,

This may be ultra simple to do but I haven't figured it out. I use Reason/Record - my sound card is an Alesis io|2 and I have up to date ASIO drivers downloaded. All of my other applications (e.g. Firefox, iTunes) seem to sue this as well. While I can play audio from iTunes and Firefox at the same time, I have to close any programmes that have used audio when I fire up Reason/Record. Is there a fast way of setting up my PC to use its own sound card for the non Reason/Record applications?

if you have windows 7, right click the speaker icon on the bottom right, make the computer driver default. daw will use soundcard or asio, programs will use computer driver

if i understand it correctly, you can only run one instance of asio at time. in control panel, set your computers sound card as the defualt and use asio from your hardware in your daw
