Phono Pre too quiet for MPC?

Hello,

I have a TC-754 phono pre (from phono preamps.com) that I'm using to sample from my stanton turntable into my mpc 2000xl. However, even on full volume, the sample doesnt reach very high volume levels when I sample into my mpc. I also have a crappy stanton mixer somewhere... Did I just get a bad phono pre? If so, which one should I get?

You probably have adjusted both the volume knob of your phono preamp and the rec gain knob of your 2000xl?
If you have I'd first find try using the preamp without the mpc, connect it to some stereo set or to your audio interface, monitors or what ever you got.
 
it could be your mixer just sucks. i changed mine out with a newer and the problem with away for me. its honestly hard to say because it could be coming from a lot of places
