pacing music

Hi. I'm actually only interested in learning how to take a mp3-file (or wav-file) with any music at all and change the speed of it. Is there any simple way to do that (with some free software)? Thankful for any help at all.

Do you want the change to be permanent, or just while playing?
If non-permanent, try the free winamp player:

At the site you can also find tools(plugins) for tempo-changes.

You could also pay a few bucks and get cooledit 2000 wich has a stretch function if you want it to be permanent.

I believe I have seen some free programs for stretching there.
