The Ortofon.com web site says "All stylus units for the different lines, are completely interchangeable within their own series". But it's not really clear what they mean by lines and series.

Does this mean you shouldn't, for example, put a NC stylus on your Concorde Pro cart?

From http://www.ortofon.com/html/body_replacement_styli.html it looks like you shouldn't even replace a NC-spherical with a NC-elliptical...?

Good post, cause I'm usin concorde Pro S right now and was thinking about changing up the stylie..

I beleve it means:

you can use the Spherical or Elliptical stylii.........

Yeah that's what Ortofon wants you to think.

You can put any stylus on any cartridge of the OM or Concorde series ... which means you can have a Concorde Pro S and put a Nightclub E stylus on it, which will get you the same performance as a Concorde Nightclub E. But ssshhh you didn't hear this from me =)

true, true...

i heard from a distributor that the ALL ortofon cartridges are the same (including the gold)...only difference is the styli, which is interchangeable among all Concordes...I have Blue DJ concorde with Yellow Night Club tips...friend of mine has Silver Concorde Pro with Night Club Yellow Tips(styli)

silver styli (don't bother)
blue DJ S styli (best quality, record wear and sound for the money)
yellow Night Club S styli (more money, but same as Blue DJ S except little higher frequency range...only noticeable to bats)
gold styli (expensive, not worth it...like a gold-plated toilet seat...)

Indeed all the Concorde and OM are interchangeable and to top that, you can even put Tonar Banana or Baktrak styli on (as they are designed according to Ortofon specs).

Will having ortofon DJs with NC tips give you the same frequencies as NC w/NC tips?

in that case, then i'd get the DJs just for there color :-)

So I can buy the (blue) DJ "S" styli for my Night Club cartridges? Is this the same as buying the "yellow" night club "S" styli?

Interchangeable

So I ended up getting a NC cart and a DJ cart with 3 stylii each from a guy's ebay store. He sells them dirt f'ing cheap -- I am not affiliated with him except as a happy customer. Way better and faster service from this guy than 123dj.com... those bastards... no surprise there, right? I figured I could listen to both the DJs and the NCs and hear the diff for myself; there wasn't a huge price difference between the two.

So anyway, I've got one blue and one black cart. Right now I have DJ stylii on both and it's working fine, no problem. The only annoyance is that only the DJ cart comes with the rubber handle, and I like the rubber handle. Whatever. Thanks for the advice.

(Edited to add note to chris) Chris: the stylii are the important part. Putting a DJ stylus on a NC cart will give you DJ sound. Kind of like putting a single-blade razor on a Mach-3 body will give you a face full of cuts instead of that smooth triple-blade shave, you know?
