Opinions on skrillex?

I feel like he worked his way up there, I remember the day where I found out that he was Sonny Moore, the tiny emo kid from half a decade ago.
After knowing he was Sonny Moore, I believe he has a lil bit of talent, or at least alot of connections.
 
i wonder how the genre of dubstep would be right now if sonny didn't ruin his voice in that band he played in...

...Or maybe he isn't fully responsible for dubstep being what it (mostly) is today, i'm maybe just talking mumbo jumbo...

I like him. I think he does his form of dubstep /brostep the best - every other producer trying to pull that off seems like theyre over-indulgent and it's just about the drop and the only purpose of the song is making it as heavy and dark as possible. Disposable!
Skrillex is actually quite melodic for the genre!
I dont know why ppl hate him so much anyway - he's even said that he doesn't want to be referred to as a 'dubstep' dj..

Because my friend, he is simply not dubstep. Dubstep is low, somewhat badass, and very electronic with collaborating drums. Sonny Moore did the exact opposite, called it dubstep, and then got famous. Great marketing exploit, yes. But is it really dubstep? No, you could very well classify it as Electronic House though.

Skrillex is alright in my book, I'm not hugely into dubstep but I have a couple of albums I like. I am into Nero's stuff at the moment.

 
That's what shits me though! Everybody thinks because it's a relatively new genre and because they're a fan of it, that they have some entitlement of the word or something..
People think Rusko and Datsik are like the creators of dubstep?? lol.. Maybe they were responsible for 'reviving' it but the industry knows that the most original form, as an alternative form of bass music, dates back to the first work of ppl like Skream and Benga back in the 90s..

Dubstep came from DnB (Drum and Bass) originally, if im correct.
 
If you think about it he is a genius really, this guy pretty much evolved a genre and is making other dubstep artists get more recognized. Everyone who hates has really no reason. If you don't like his music you don't have to listen to it, people act as if it forced down there throats.

Lol at all the producers hating on Skrillex.

You might not like his music but the dude is talented. I used to be the biggest hater but I can't deny his production skills. He made dubstep popular. That's all that has to be said.

Now that I think is completely true. I think 90% of the people now days that listen to dubstep have no idea of the good old days when there was an atmosphere and a huge sub bass to every song.

I do think it's kind of interesting that the OP was "what do you think about Skrillex?" and people are arguing whether he's dubstep or not. Assuming brostep is a completely different genre it still doesn't address the OP.

I think he's a really unique producer who comes out with similar yet varied sounds. But that's just my $.02
 
I'm not bagging on Skrillex. He makes great music, I love scary monsters. But my point is he isn't part of the Dubstep Category. Its simple not dubstep. Call it electronic house, but its not dubstep.
 
It doesn't really fall under electronic house either as it doesn't follow a 4 floor pattern, isn't that what makes electo house?

Your right, it cant even be electro-house. It would have to be very heavy Electronica then.
 
Yep, otherwise we wouldn't have any "classical" dubstep or "classical" death metal e.t.c.
