Okay, First off, this is the best damn music site anywhere. You can learn a helluva alot off these boards and I love the great responces. Keep it up!

Anyway..here my problem :
I recently Purchased REASON(and yes it is the best investment ever made)

My computer is an AMD Duron 700 Mhz w/ 256megs of ram, and a pro sonique sound card(soon to be SBlive)

My OS is Windows 98 SE....Now from what I have heard it is pointless to add more ram to your computer because Win98 doesnt really utilize it very much. I hear that It will utilize up to 128megs.... What if I was to go to Windows 2000? iT can support all my ram, but will it run REASON better?....In theory it seems like it should, but I'm unclear. Any compatibility problems? Any info would help me out alot.

Thanks! Please get back to me!

PLease help me out! Thanks!

Hi tribute013

.... :)

man I love what you said, thank you very much, it's great to maintain this site, thanks to all the great moderators too.

yes, Reason is a very good investment I must say. TUTORIALS are coming in! Lots of them.

About memory. I recommend to get 256MB. And Windows98/ME DOES use memory quite well. The limit of usefulness is not 128 but... 512MB!

In fact I have 512MB of RAM in my system, and what I get from that is: I never hear my hard drive "swap" (when I render 3D, record a lot of Audio, load a lot of programs together, have a big project in Macromedia Flash 5...).

I admit 512MB is a bit too much, but you can comfortably jump to 256MB, it's useful.

Win2000 is supposed to manage memory even better, without limit really, but the same rules apply really... And be careful... 2000/NT is not a dream for audio at all.

Hope this helps
See you on the site soon

98 versus 2000

I hear windows 98 is coolest for audio progs. Have heard 2000 is potentioally hassle. Also, have heard there have been hassles with the Dual Processor G4's - not sure what about, just in general, like, software houses have been not all that keen to write for them. Ooops there igo again off topic. My girlfriend thinks i get scatty but i think it is just being an eclectic renaissance man of formidable mental journeying.
[he hasn't smoked dope for a week now]
PS being told that 98 can only use 128 meg of ram must be just as uncomfortable as being told that just because you didn't sleep last night you have to sleep today. ?

man eat my 768mb RAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

uiiiiiiiiiiii 'ardcore live software sampling

Win 98 ME is the most stable of them all and that is one of the most important thing when you work with music.

And tribute013:
Mindblunt wasn't beeing rude, and even so it only generates even more negativity to respond the way you did.
Peace!

yeah mindblunt was just joking :)
tribute013 i am glad you got helped

er

joke.
Actually, whilst we're all confabing, does 98 support scuzzying files back and forth between the mac os of a mac g4? hope so. the g4 has a scsi card with 3 ports (adaptec) and one is free.
