normalizing a mix

hi, so i am trying to make my first mix using ableton, but i ran into a problem, which is the loudness of tracks is inconsistent due to warping and pitching, in addition to the original mastering level of each tracks, how is it that mixes made by known DJs are a brickwall when i view their waveform.
is there any way to reach a consistent volume throughout the mix
P.S : im mixing trance tracks

you may want to consider using a program like audacity to level every track after you have warped them but before you try to mix them - use its normalize effect routine and set it to -1db or lower (i.e. -2, -3 etc). then re-import everything and start your final mixes.
