I have 2 questions about Maschine:

1. Does it work stand alone? I mean really stand alone, just the unit with no computer? I'm interested for live acts.
2. Does it sequence external gear?

Thanks a lot guys!!

1. No. Maschine is a hardware controller for the Software.

2. Not sure what you mean here. Maschine works as a VST inside other DAWs.

The control surface does have a standard MIDI port, so I assume it could be configured just about any way you like it. But the sequencer and all it's functions lie within the software. It's basically a pad controller with a dedicated VST.

I don't own one, but I have been researching it. From this video, it seems that it can. But it is limited to 1 port of 16 channels. If your MIDI is set up properly you should be able to send and receive to various modules. You would be sharing 16 channels with all modules instead of having 16 channels dedicated to each module.

And it is not stand alone. It's basically a VERY tightly integrated hardware/software combination. The hardware can be used as a MIDI controller, but without a computer it's useless.
