Hello folks!
I am a newbie to the terms mixing and mastering. Could someone describe them? I record piano, voice, and keyboard music with an H4n handy recorder and a couple of extra input microphones.. Then I get the volume levels right for the different tracks I've layered using Mixcraft on my computer. Is that called mixing? And then what is mastering? Thanks guys.

Mixing is just the art of taking more than 2 audio signals and mixing them down to a stereo or mono signal. Mastering would be getting that final stereo or mono signal ready to be heard by the masses usually via radio or another form of broadcasting
 
Look for the 'Ozone Mix and Mastering Guide' free to download somewhere online - off their website too i should think. It helped me a lot
