New to Producing, Help me out!

Hello FutureProducers! Im fairly new to music production, and have just over 5 months of experience. Right now I am in the creative process for a song I am writing. Please, if anyone wants to help a new producer, lets bounce Ideas as to where I should go with it/ Ideas for sections of the song. Any input is appreciated! Also, I understand the track is quiet, I have yet to mix. I can't post links yet, but please search up Justin Hansen on Soundcloud. If you see a picture of Aunt Jemima, it is the correct account. The song is aptly titled, not finished, I suck lol.

Thank You! Had to stand out somehow lol, Im not exactly sure What I would label the genre as to be honest. I tagged it as Dread-Wave for its eerie sound, so I guess its a mix of elements in chill wave and glitch, maybe. If you didn't hear the song, or even if you did, here is the link to the up

Justin, this is REALLY good. The little part at 1:22 where the beat drops and that little swirl comes in with that bloop percussion sound really does it for me. The section at 1:37 could be a little longer or a lot longer, but sounds great as it is. Maybe even at 1:23, when the music comes back in add a high smooth pad with the same chords, panned under the existing synth to fatten it a bit. Just some ideas I had listening to it a few times.

Wow, thank you! It feels really good to have my music called really good, Im still a newbie trying to move up the learning curve and it inspires me to put out more. The pad suggestion sounds like a good idea really, I need to extend that last section and that could add some sweet dynamics. Do you think I should design a new synth, like a super saw or a thick square wave pad? Also looking to move into one more soft verse but Im not sure how i should transition from the intensity of the section.

Hey no problem, it is what it is. For a 'newbie' this is better than a lot of people who've been doing it for a long time. Yeah the last section sounds really cool and would be nice to see it extended! I think a nice wave pad will be the way to go. I was picturing a soft 'flute' type pad (hard to explain what I mean haha) and you could put a massive HP Filter at around 350-450Hz just so it sits behind the main stereo synths (If you YouTube the song 'Leaf' by Clams Casino I had the pad sound at the start of the song in mind, sort of). Panned around 65/65 Left and Right so it sits under your main pads. With the transition from the loud to soft, you could do what you did in 1:22. Probably wouldn't use something ascending in notes, as it tends to give the impression theres a bigger part coming after it.

Yeah lol, if you're talking about the little arpeggio at the very end that was a just 'cause thing that may not be in the final mix. I tried to emulate the menu select sound from Legend of Zelda. Extending the last part is a good idea, as long as it doesn't make my bridge too monotonous. I've been using similar variations of the same few chords essentially, and I don't want it to be overkill you know? I see what you mean about the pad too. With an HP filter and just enough reverb it'll sit nice. Producing music is something I've become really passionate about. Sound is amazing, and as weird as it sounds there is nothing more calming than sitting down and making a new beat or even designing a new synth or drum sound.

Haha! Yeah the little arpeggio thing is cool. I get what you mean about overkill, nothing good usually happens with overcrowding. With the pad, yeah, it could fit in nicely or sound yuck :P worth a shot though. It shows you really enjoy music creation as you've only been doing it 5 months and already pumping out good stuff. You're right about sound, theres something special in creating your own unique percussive or pad sound no one has made before and being able to use it in a song you've made!

Absolutely! Im a music production major at college, possibly minoring in music industry. I would love to make a career out of this honestly, I feel like I have the potential - not to sound cocky at all
