I've been wanting a turntable for a very long time (for sampling) and I made an impulse buy and got a Gemini DJQ 1500 for $40 at a yard sale

sadly, I didn't notice that there was no needle...is there a specific needle that'd be needed for this? I tried doing a little research but I couldn't really find much about the turntable in general...also, a friend of mine was saying it might need a cartridge but I don't really know much about turntables in general so how can I find out if it needs one or not? here's a picture, if that helps http://i.imgur.com/EOm9d.jpg

I'm just hoping it wasn't a stupid buy, I love the table because it's classic and sturdy and I'm dying to use it but I hope that mistake didn't cost me too much :(

sorry for the stupid questions too, I'm a noob to the whole tables thing lol

Now heres what got me first time I started DJing...

Are you wanting a CONTROLLER or an actual TURNTABLE.

Differences:

Controllers are electronic turntables made for live djing concerts, e.g. raves and huge moshes and festivals. Here was my first one: mixtrackpro_ortho_media.webp

Vinyl Turntables are for playing real old records that you found in your grandfathers attic. Here was my first one: B000G3FNVM-1-th.webp

Which one were you wanting? If your looking for a first timer on both, you cant go wrong with Numark (obviously) ;)

looks good i got the numark ttusb. ..
your need a cartridge and a stylus (needle)
this is the cheapest i found witout really searching lol you only need one best bet is to look on eBay.
KCH 1B Cartridge & Stylus (Twin Pack With Headshell) - HTFR

your need some sort of audio interface to connect the tunttable to your computer i presume you already have one?
hope this helps

the TTUSB comes with software, if im not wrong

To op:

You will need a new cartridge (needle is included). And depending on the cartridge, you will also need a headshell as the turntable doesn't have one (most need a headhell to attach the cartridge).

The headshell looks like this:

The cartridge is attached to it with little screws and plugged into it (you will get instructions and tools with the cartridge):

For example, Ortofon Concordes won't need a headshell as you attach them directly to the tone-arm (but their om-series is attached to the headshell):

You will also need a phono preamp for the turntable. Mentioning this just in case if you haven't given thought to that yet. There are plenty of little phono preamp boxes for sale for $20-$50 (try Google).

If i was you i would get the traktor s4 controller .Some people look down on it, but i mean in a few years time CDs will fall away and it will all be digital.

OP asked about needles and cartridges for a turntable he has already bought, not about what type of player or a controller he should buy..
