I wonder if this really is to put out "new talent", or if he's just realizing - like so many other big artists - that you can now do all this on your own. I keep hearing artist after artist, and band after band who say they are releasing new music under their own labels.

All the time here on FP: "Stay independent. You don't need labels anymore." If that's good advice for beginners, it's gotta be even better for established stars who don't want to pay middlemen anymore.

That "stay independent" line is rubbish. That is just like telling people to work for themselves. Most people
NEED an employer. Most people are not even good employees. Do you think the average rapper or employee is going to put in the work to be their own boss? Nope.

You can definitely make more money by being your own boss. The only downside is that you will have to work harder than you did working for someone else!

Good point. Great point, actually.

Oh boy who would have thought that work would be so much...uhhh...work:bigeyes:

That is how it should be, the ones who are hungry and have that work ethic will thrive in an open environment, those not so motivated will do less according to their work ethic and talent (mostly work ethic). Not everyone gets a prize in the real world and not everyone should because it only encourages mediocrity.

%99.999999999 of those calling themselves artists will never be signed to a major label and thus are independent anyways by default. And if you are presented with a major deal 99 out of a 100 times its going to be due to your independent grind you put in that drew the major labels attention anyway. Then its a matter of if the deal makes sense to you
