N.E.R.D Lapdance synth

well i was listening to that song the other day and that synth and its just phat as **** i been tryin to get something similar sounding to it and its just not working i tried to layer synths with electric guitars and everything cuz thats what it sounds like to me.

Can anyone help me?
 
AFAIK they were heavily using the Triton during their hay day so I suggest checking that.
 
Thats what I think, its a guitar with some compression and then ran through a guitar synthish pedal. I know they use line 6 gear and in theier pod series they have a few synth guitar and bass patches they could have used...
 
yeah thats what i thought the guitar synth or whatever just sounds ****in dope
 
spymob (the band once signed to star trak, not sure if they still are) played the song.

theres a synth version of the album, sequenced instead of live instruments, i think the use a sawlead on that version
 
The lead line in Lapdance was played on a Hohner Clavinet and doubled by an electric guitar with a non-fuzzy distortion, almost a sort of 80's metal distortion sound. Nicely EQ'd and compressed so that the Clavinet provides most of the bite and the guitar gives you the more ballsy low down tone.
 
I like definitely like the synth alot. But i really want to know what kind of Keys are those played in the background of that song and the "run to the sun" song. Alot of their (and pardon my use of words but i don't know the names of some sounds) keys like ballad keys and stuff sound so clean and backgroundish instead of loud or kinda too much. I have been trying to manipulate the sounds on my motif and still have yet to get them to sound that clean. Anybody have any ideas?
