My MPC 2000 wont power on plz help

all i did was install the memory upgrade. i even half way into putting the case back on powered it up to make sure the memory read correctly which it did then powered it down and now my mpc wont turn on at all. what happend and how can i fix this

But I would start with taking out the memory you put in.
 
Make sure everything is seated tight, do you have a reset switch on the outlet? It may seem silly but make sure everything is plugged tight and that the outlet is working. Other than that...... Static discharge?
 
I am not sure how to do any of these things but im willing to give them all a chance
 
Mimik might be right, X. If you built up a static charge in your body then touched a component inside you could have fried it. You wouldn't even necessarily have felt a little "shock", it doesn't take much. Hard to say what exactly is damaged without being able to look at it and test it.

Do you have access to a Multimeter? If so, you might be able to identify where the problem is based on process of elimination. If you can get a voltage out of the power supply/regulator you could potentially follow the circuits until you find the faulty spot.

I couldn't really tell you where to start as I have never seen the insides of a MPC.

Unfortunately, the components that are generally the most susceptible to ESD (electro-static discharge) are also the most expensive and/or difficult to replace components. Any IC chips (the small, flat, black chips with usually 4-8 pins coming out of each side) are always at risk of static discharge.

Wish I could help you, but in the future if you take any of your gear apart, you might want to pick up an anti-static wristband that you just put around your wrist and a wire clamps to any metal surface to ground out static from your body. Couple bucks for one is cheaper than new gear.

You could send FP member Foggy a PM and ask him to weigh in. He's an electrical engineer that knows way more than I do.

You said you didn't know how to do any of those things, so let me try to clarify a bit..."Make sure everything is seated tight" - seated as in, the memory is pushed into the slot all the way, and wires are nice and tight in their connections. As well as any other component that might have been loosened when you took it apart.

Some of them have that little reset switch on the outlet itself. If it does, unplug everything from the outlet and reset it.

Based upon what you've described, my limited knowledge indicates something got shorted and damaged. Could be wrong, I hope so, it would be a b*tch to find out exactly what's wrong without much experience with electronics.

I am hoping its a cheap fix. Ill pay to have it fixed I called a tech this morning but they were busy so i left a voice mail. A friend recommended him as the audio dude in the city so lets see what he can do.
 
Are you certain there is no voltage passing the inverter in the MPC? I'm sure that the screen no longer comes on, but have you tried the transport to see if any of the LEDs come on when you hit Record/Play? Its possible the screen is just not attached to the board anymore as well (I have done this unintentionally). There is probably just an issue with the inverter if its not a simple cable issue.
 
the screen wont turn on and when i boot it up usually all the leds light up but thats not happening either. I had to disattach the board that the screen was attached to to get to the memory slot but thats just a simple ribbon cable i made sure it was tightly secured. I am still waiting on the tech to call me back hopefully this is something stupidly simple.
 
If the LEDs come on then you either have improperly connected the screen back to the main board, or you have damaged an inverter and will need that replaced.
 
Check the fuses. Buy a bunch at Radio shack and remove the memory, replace the fuse, turn on. Then replace the memory and turn it on to see if it blows.
 
It's the power supply, simple and easy fix. An MPC board won't "fry" that easy to my knowlege. But the slightest mishaps can blow the power supply. I'm not sure it's a "fuse", because i took it to a shop. But I had mine fixed for like $30 and it was done in like 2 hours. Any repair shop can fix it.

I'd suggest taking it in for repair unless you know what you're doing.

EDIT: On second thought, I think it was a "fuse", it's little tubes inside, if one of yours looks like a burnt out bulb, you got the same issue I had. Those most likely are fuses(I build computers, not MPCs, lol).

got damn man. i had a static discharge incident with my Fusion and one of the outputs dont work. ay man if u want i could sell u my mpc for like $200 i guess
 
thanks for the offer i already bought the power supply unit should be here this week thought it would be here today actually. maybe ill get at u when and if my screen goes out

i bought the power supply unit and got it today I installed it and still nothing. i did notice the clicking is coming from the actual power switch so thats my next move. I hope this works out
