mpc2000xl zip drive is DRIVING ME MAD!

I have bought three f*cking zip drives.

one says "not ready!" [but does show up as atapi] when i boot up and/or go into the load save screen
i have tried all settings all pin settings and cable arrangements.
^^^nec 100.


the other simply will not show up as atapi but the light is on and will eject/take disks.

the third will not do jack.

i have taken the case off my mpc 30+
times now.
i hate iomega.
 
The internal scsi drives are much more reliable, try and get the "mac" scsi version and you dont even have to use thet stupid power adaptor that you need for the IDE ones.
 
This is one of several reason's why u should cop the MPC 1000! With the USB and compact flash you don't have to worry bout that! I'm glad I bought the MPC 1000 over the XL! I don't want to go thru all that!
 
but how do i hook it up?

The 2000XL has an internal SCSI header, all you need is the drive and an internal scsi ribbon cable
 
Don't give up on your XL! I like both of them the XL and the MPC 1000! They are both GREAT MPC's! Keep tryin playa don't give up on your gear!
 
Wait, you do realize that the 2000xk will ONLY read scsi right ? Maybe thats your problem. Other wise you could've screwed up your scsi port completely. I think.

Voerman (AKAI import Netherlands) told me he heard at NAMM that there's gonna be a Compact Flash Drive for MPC 2000XL. When , he doesn't know. Since i'm now at my fifth Iomega ext.250MB (not really suitable for extended live useage, duh)and i'm desperate for a solution. Anyone heard of the CFD for MPC2000XL?
I'm also working on the MPC1000 and can't say it's the same machine as the 2000XL. The 1000 offers very good options for use on stage but i can't do without my MPC2000XL when creating stuff. Also the MPC1000 works with .wav. I really don't understand why they couldn't make the 1000 and 2000XL compatible?!

What you should do is get an external ORB drive for your MPC. Get the scsi external ORB drive. They cost about $200 brand new but I've found them on ebay starting out at about $5. They usually come with one 2.2 gb disk and that equals about 1500 floppies PLUS there's room for 3 disks on one drive! Do the math. If my scsi wasn't burnt out on my mpc I'd already have one.
 
DAMNN! all this is so sad... a week ago i recieved my mpc2kxl 4.3 GIG SCSI HARDDRIVE!! oh my GOD!! this is the savior godsend for the MPC2k!! never again mess with ZIP/FLOPPY/CD just store it on the HARDDRIVE.. its about the size of the cdrom but AMAZINGLY more effective and useful!! hey man.. ebay $78! best money i have EVER SPENT i swear. does the mpc1k have scsi harddrives?? if not that is complete bummer HAHAAAAAAAAAA!

If you get a SCSI hard drive remember to BACKUP - having all your data in one hard drive is great until that drive screws up and you lose everything. To backup a hard drive, you'll need to hook it to a computer via SCSI - computers cannot read MPC format partitions (apart from the first partition). If you have XP on an NTFS partition, it wont read MPC format hard drives period.

For ultimate compatibility (MPC2000XL,PC,Mac), first format the SCSI drive in a PC and use folders to organise your sounds.

I believe several people on my forums already use a bog-standard SCSI CF reader with their MPC. I also have heard of people installing an IDE CF reader into the internal IDE port on the XL.

Not sure if all these readers are compatible, but it would seem some certainly are.
 
ALL Atapi drives have this 2 pin terminator. Make sure you put it on slave or master if it doesnt work.
