Looking into purchasing a mpc for $600obo...he claims he "only used it once or twice"

What i want to know is if there were some tips or tricks you could tell me for buying a used mpc so i can try to buy the best working one.

Example:
When i go to inspect a car for a potential buyer/friend...i know to check tire pressure(as too high/low pressure can affect alignment making the car seem to drive staight)

Is there like certain buttons or knobs, pads that wear out the most?
Thanks Hope You Guys Understood me

Yes indeed, there is a few things you MUST check out before buying a used MPC
That`s why I tell people NEVER buy a mpc from Ebay.

Ok first things first.
Load up a mpc program too all the pads and make sure each mpc pad works
( It is very common for people to try and sell their mpc when a pad breaks )

NEXT

If it`s a mpc with a CF card drive MAKE SURE the cf drive works.
That is another thing that people seem to breat all the time trying to force in a card.

Other then that if those 2 things work you should be good..

Just make sure you come down to www.akaimpc.com and pick up a DVD tutorial to learn to use it like a pro.
Peace!

thanks

the red & blue joints are older. if you can get a black one....get it. if i were you, i'd check every i/o on the bloody thing.

things to check (if you can):

audio ins & outs (Stereo in/out, etc)
data ins & outs (MIDI, USB etc)
every knob & slider
check Compact Flash slot
check the responsiveness of the pads

im sure someone else will add on to this if i missed anything.

i honestly would recommend against buying an MPC1000 or 2500 second-hand. those models, after numark took over, are of lesser build quality than the older (eg. 2000) models. just something to think about.

That may be true, but I think that they are still pretty durable. Granted the 2000xl is a great machine, but it is missing some features that make the 1000 desirable.

I got one for sale I'm looking to let it go for $650.00 2000xl. I'm going to do every thing on my macbook! I got 8 outs installed card drive with 2 1gb sandisk works,I got zip drive with like 14 zips 11 with samples maybe 3 blank, old floppie drive with like 56 floppies dvd, manual, and e-book holla at me. awookk@gmail.com every thing works!

No matter if you get black or the blue with red you are still going to need to go to akaipro.com and update to the newest OS.
