MPC 4000...how to make a sample at different pitches so i can play it on the keyboard

How can i take for instance a guitar chop sample......and make it different notes scaling up the octave on my pads or a midi keyboard.....so i could play it like an instrument? i lost my manual help me im lost...peace L
 
did you lose your manual, or are you too lazy to look through it??

Since the MPC4000 has the Z8 engine in it, I think you can place your samples in KEYGROUPS... this will let you map a sample accross a range of keys, with all the pitch/tune settings made for you.
 
im not lazy i dont understand the manual...i did lose it yes.....and before when looking for this i couldnt understand how to do it...

This is what u do.....go to program then click window on program 1..... then u can change the name of the program....then press f3 to convert the program into keygroup.....then press the f2 button (kg mix) and then the f3 button(pitch).....under sample zone go to the first open space then scroll and find the sample u want to use......after that move over to the right and u should see that it says spam change it from 0-127.....thats it

or you could just hit program/window/create new program (keygroup) and assign the sample and be done with it.

I was just starting to warm up to buying the MPC1000 over the 4000 there too lol....

I can't decide between the two at all. All i cud see before is that the 1000 was cheaper, but now i see that the 4000 is the one with the Beef!!

If i got the 1000, what software could be used to do the Keygroups thing? Im thinking this way to save some money on buying a 4000 and getting a 1000 instead. Does the ASR-10 do the keygroup thang? cos if one comes along i may just get that one over them all!!!

I believe the ASR does the keygroup thing. Most rack samplers do also.

Software-wise, most samplers are keygroup-based (apart from BATTERY maybe)

What do you wnat to do exactly? if you are abig pianist and wantt load complex multisampled pianos etc, then look at the MPC4000 or MV8000 - or a keyboard workstation (triton, motif, asr-10, etc)

If you are not a big pianist and want to simply have access to a a bunch of notes from 1 sample quickly, you can use the MPC1000's "16 LEVELS" mode. Basically it turns the 16 pads into 16 notes of a same sample. It gets the job done in many cases, although it is not the same thing as keygroup.

Ok im not a big pianist, yet, but what i want to do is, say take a sample, say of a guitar, and be able to play it as if it was a keyboard preset. This sounds like that mpc1000 16 level thing u was just saying, cos u know how if u use a wav sample on fruityloops and when u play different keys the sample speeds up/slows down and goes higher/lower pitches. I dont want that. I wanna be able to get that 1 sample and make a lil melody out of it. It sounds like the mpc1000 will do this then??? and if it can do this then ill be tipped back in that direction over the 4000, since i dont wanna fork out the big wads of cash for it if i can do basically the same thing on a mpc1000.

actually pretty much all samplers will speed up and speed down the sample to simulate the various "notes"... this is what they do...

The 16 levels mode does not let you play the 16 notes from a midi keyboard - only the pads - so if you are ok with the pads it will work, but if you want to play on the keys then it won't

Note: on the mpc1000 you can map a same sample on various keyboard keys, at different tunes for each, but you have to do it manually (press a key, select sample, set tune value).

You should also know that noone will map 1 sample accross 88 keys and espect the notes to sound good all accross... People MULTI-sample instruments to obtain a full piano or even a violin on 3 octaves.... People often use 3 samples for each octave, and the newest libraries of multisampled instruments are a lot more detailed than that even.
