MPC 3000 vs 4000

Pete Rock has been using the mpx2000xl...I have that Source issue with him in it...I think he should have stook with the SP myself...if it ain't broke?

The MPC3000 hype? Well I'll put it like this. Everybody that has it loves it and everyone that never had one wants one...if not to just use it and say its no good. Its a great machine BUT it will not make wack beats better.

Is it overpriced at $1500, I don't think so because many of us paid$3500 when it first came out and were still paying up to $2200 for used ones on eBay until about Sept. 01 The reason for the price is simple supply and demand. Every great producer you can think of has one of these.......the more people that realize this, the more want to get what their fav producers uses.....since they are no longer available, its the sellers market.......

BTW, theres nothing wrong with wanting the same gear your fav producer uses.....

the 2000 and 3000 are very comparable

and ya'll haven't yet told me what a 3000 can do that a 2000 or xl cant do

so until 1 of u do, it dont warrant that $1000 price difference, u feel me

alot of professional records have been made wit all mpc's

its personal preference i feel that , but this cat that asked dunno about any mpc, so y not elighten him to another option thats cheaper and is just as powerful

only reason the 2000xl and 2000 are cheaper then the 3000 is cuz Roger Linn aint scribbled on it

peace

Well The 3000 has 4 midi outs.
As well as larger viewing screen and a VGA option. Also Built in SMPTE (NOT A OPTION)2 footswich input and a better build quilty. Like a Tank

Thats Pretty cool **** there.
4 midi outs is well worth it if your planning to control more the 2 midi devices. And the VGA, is worth it alone. Not to mention you would have to shell out another 200- 250 for a SMPTE in a 2000.

I like them both but the 3000 is woth the extra cash.

vga is cool

but there is not even wav editin on it, so u jus usin #'s

cant read wav files, so i could jus edit sounds on my PC and burn to a CD RW

SMPTE,,,, wtf still uses that ????
(i guess if ur usin tape)

about the midi ya that is dope, but i dont really use synths , i mainly jus sample

built like a tank ??

i aint in iraq makin beats, i've never dropped my mpc, i had it for 4 years and everythin still works like new on it

They may make a diffrence to someone though.I would need 4 midi outs for sure and it would be worth it.
As far as I go, I need a tank, thats why I got a 4000.
But I been through them all. Each has it advanages.
I would just wait to see if the 2500 comes out this summer.
And if not get a 1000.

Dre actually barely uses any of them these days. They are in his studio and may actually put his own hands on them EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, but that about it.
weel actually he did say in scratch-mag just last month that:
"Can you talk a bit about some of the equipment you use?

I love using the MPC3000. I like setting up like four or five different MPC3000’s, so I don’t have to keep changing disks. So I have them all lined up, and I have different drum sounds in each one, and then we use one for sequencing the keyboard. "

and i really don't think he just keeps them there cos they look good.

but hell who cares. i just don't get why ppl come to this thread talkin abut 2000's or 1000's because fella was askin about 3000 and 4000.

1005, for the simple reason is some people dunno all they options

they see amillion people sayin the 3000 or 4000 and they dont even look into the other models that are out when they are just as capable of doin what they wanna do

Yeah, he says that to a mag discussing gear. I believe it now! I read that, his in house producers probably do that, but he don't really 'make' make the beats MUCH anymore (Notice I didn't say NEVER). Ask Mel Man or what ever that dude's name is that used to work for Dre who works the machines...

I'm about to buy an mpc but i'm stuck on which one to get. What are the advantages. I f you could give any feedback i would appreciate it
yo Justshine, the main diff' between da 3K and da 4K's the sampler, user interface and computer-like connections.
The sequencers r basically the same, same feel, swing, TC, note repeat, 16 levels/tunings, 2 midi ins / 4 midi outs, etc.
But da 3K's sampler's only for drums/percs, loops, phrases, not for keyboard-based instruments. Da 4K's got a full Z8 sampler inside, with tons of filters and modulations like a synth, and ya can load AKAI, EMU and Roland's libraries and play multisampled instruments, like piano, strings, etc. And da 4K can do 24bit, cool if ya wanna sample vocals and ish.
With da 4K, ya get a hard drive, a cd-rw drive, SCSI and USB for external drives, USB for connectin' to yer computer. Ya can also get 8 ADAT digital outputs if ya got a digital mixer or a audio interface with lightpipe for yer computer.
On da 3K, ya get a floppy or a Zip and SCSI for external drives and dat's it.

Fo'all dat, I dig da 4K betta, but if ya got another good sampler, da 3K's still a classic and dat's no hype.

i'm learnin alot here. the studio i work at we got like 4 mpc3000 and i aint touch one yet. i stay on the keyboard and the 2kxl studio. i use my keyboard or digital performer to sequence and i play the sounds on the mp with my keyboard keys cause i'm used to it. the only think i ever used the mpc3k was for midi master clock control with protools tdm. :(

ya cuz in all actuallity i think xl's have way more features then 3000's

but people wanna be purist and say the 3000 is great cuz Roger Linn helped design it

or cuz it's built like a tank, so when they g/f gets jealous and throws it out the window they can go pick it up and plug it back in and it wills till work
