natural selection

on my mpc 3000, the maximum time for sampling in stereo is 46.7 seconds (maximum time for mono is 93.4 seconds).....

what does this mean? is my sampler not fully upgraded? (oh yeah, it has OS version 3.11)

Ok. The amount of ram dictates your total sampling time. It has nothing to do with your os. Note that on Mono, your time gets doubled ? That's because your 3000 only has to record for one channel. On stereo it has to take care of two, so as a result the time is cut in half. You can also get more time by lowering the sample quality. You get it ? So in other words, your always going to be restricted by Ram.

hello homer,

see, i don't know whether i got the 32 mb of RAM or not....

in the manual, it says that if you got a fully expanded MPC, your maximum sampling time (in the record sample option) should be 188.3 seconds mono or 94.1 in stereo

in a non expanded MPC, it's 21.9 mono or 10.9 stereo

the numbers i'm getting fall short of the max (although by just a little) so i was just wondering why?

btw, i've read that you have an MPC 3000 (i can't find anyone else on here that does, everyone got 2000xl) do you mind if i hit you up on PM while i'm trying to learn this machine? not as easy as i thought it would be......
:hello:

don't quote me on this, but in the manual, Akai only made the MPC 3000 for their 16mb upgrade board. A 32 mb upgrade can be used though. YOu can also ask the 2kxl guys. If they have their units upgraded to 32 megs, they can tell you the sample time in both (mono and stereo).

Yeah Natch...
Email me. Roger Linn actually designed the MPC3000 for 32mb of ram. It's pretty easy to do and cheap too. Plus that extra 16 makes it almost limitless.

I can school you on what little I know. There are some MPC masters out here.

Peace.

I'm sorry, call me a 'hater' or whatever, but you bought a 3000 and didnt know what the ram specs were ? Or even how ram constitutes sample time ? Oi !!! But I am happy for you. Honest.
