AY guys i jus got the mcd kit for my mpc 2000xl and i need version 1.20 for it to work, rite now i have 1.14. I put the 1.20 on a cd-r disk downloaded from akai.com and when i load it into my mpc all i see is question marks. ANy Ideas??????
and the cd rom works fine becuz i load drums all the time.

put the o.s. on a card (compact flash, sd etc...) load it in the mp.you may need to format the card.

Yeah. What he said. The MPC should still read the card with the v1.14 OS installed; so loading v1.20 from a CF should work fine.

I have an old windows desktop with a floppy so I ended up installing the OS from a floppy disk prior to changing the drives.

I have a question tho...I don't have a compact flash reader for my computer yet so I formatted the card in the MPC, is that not good?

I'm currently having the same problem.
Just reconnect the floppy drive you had and make a floppy disk to boot the v 1.20 OS

My mpc is an old version. so I have the 1.1 operating system

the o.s version 1.14 or whatever it is before 1.20 will read cf cards.it formats in the 2000xl format, which uses partitions under 1 gig but will read over 27 gigs.It splits them by letters a-z.But it cant read cards formated on cpu.v 1.20 will not partition, but it cant format over a certain size.I think on an sd card it wont format over 1 gig. i installed a 20 gig internal laptop hd in mine.then down graded the o.s so i could format all 20 gigs.I traded that 2000xl for a fantom x so i dont have it anymore, but i preferred the old o.s because of that function.
that way i didnt have to buy or carry a bunch of cards,i had ever thing in the machine.

Bring this thread back again

OK There are a few different reasons these CF card readers dont work:

1. The IDE cable you need might need to run into the 44pin floppy connector instead of the 40 pin IDE.
2. The OS 1.06 on MY mpc 2000 xl is too old to recognize the drive
3. The jumper settings on the drive are not correct

I have tried everything, I've sent a similar email to scsiforsamplers.com

we'll see what they say
