Mpc 2000 vs. Mpc 2000xl

Whats the difference...i need specs!!! Anyone? Im gettin a mpc 2000classic on thursday and want to know whats the big difference? Wat can u do in the xl that u cant do with the 2k classic?

And also what can the classic do midi wise??
 
The jog wheel on the 2000 is the best. The xl can time stretch. The xl is definitely the better machine. But if your using software an any mpc it doesn't matter.
 
so what if i sample something into the mpc 2000 and its off beat! theres no way i can get it onbeat in the 2k classic?
 
Sure there is lol. You have to chop things more precise on the 2k classic. The 2kxl also has a folder system that the 2k classic does not. Its actually a lot of small things. On the mpc forums there is a list of things but I havent seen anything major enough to stop one from getting the classic. I am considering a classic myself
 
o ok, thx dude, one more question...as far as saving with floppies, can i save a whole beat or just the structure because im sure the floppy cant hold **** really, how do those scsi zip drives work whats the deal with those, why do people with beat machines and samplers use them but they do not make them anymore, whats going on with saving? and how is the 2k classic with midi??
 
the mpcs are great midi machines. that was their main purpose. they were great midi production centers (the original meaning of mpc before numark changed it to music production center) before samplers. scsi is an old standard that isnt really relevant anymore but floppies do work. You would be surprised at how much can fit on a floppy disk.
 
The little things about the XL make it worth it though. Even the tilt screen makes it worth the extra (I have a 1000). However, with the price of the 2500 that's where I would be going.

To the OP, do you have any old gear that uses SCSI or floppys?
If you do, then it will incorporate well. If you don't it doesn't make much sense to go back in time; unless of course you install a CF slot on your 2000XL. I dig vintage gear as much as the next dude but only if it is beneficial and practical to my needs.

In the end the 2500 is the best MPC for the money. With the JJOS software update, expanded ram, and a hard drive; it's a great centerpiece.

IMO the amount a computer plays in your production depends on whether a MPC is worth incorporating into your setup.
 
i think the 2000 classic is gud for me, just trying to make beats sampled from old records and maybe use the vsts on my computer to add sounds to the beats thru midi, thats it really, maybe i should try and trade sum of my old stuff for a 2500 then..
 
wikipedia.org has all specs for all machines if you just type in Akai MPC. The classic rerquires a startup disk.
 
well the 2k classic doesnt read wav files, the xl does.

I had the 2000, got rid if it when the 2000xl came out better all around. You can re-sample, Time stretch, reverse etc in the XL. The XL has a better transfer rate with scsi because it has a new output on the back which you can attach a hard drive to your MPC2000xl and that's what I have. I have a CDROM, Huge Hard Drive, and a Zip Disk Port all Connected to the MPC in a daisy change, hot!

The View window on the MPC2000xl tilts up, I use to hate the 2000 because I had to always lean over to see, you can go blind and mess up your back. You can also do Automation on the MPC2000xl, that's real slick. You can also silence sounds with in those sounds you cut also. It does so much, I mastered it. The Time stretch works well with loops not so much of your own playing and putting that sound on a pad. The MPC2000xl doesn't take a load up disk it just comes on with the new OS in it. Here's my video you can take a look and see my CDROM, Hard Drive and Zip Drive is hooked up to it. I can save mad songs, fully arranged in the hard drive plus save sounds in it. You can do wav, or midi files also.

Plus the MPC2000xl is compact and has no vents where dust can get into it. I love that, that is the only machine I will work on as MY OWN! If mine were to break down, I would get another one, I don't want the 2500, or the 4000, or the 5000 MPC I want the MPC2000xl
