MPC 1000 mem upgrade

has anybody upgraded their 1k or know someone who upgraded their 1k with regular computer RAM? i read on www.mpc1000.com that you can use regular PC133 SDRAM to do the upgrade for less than AKAI wants to charge.
 
i heard people did this but it was with a 256MB chip which ended up showing up as 128MB

if you ask me, I think the price AKAI is asking ($100) is fine. Yes it is expensive, but at least I know it will work as labeled (128MB shows as 128MB) :)

the ram I heard worked is not regular SDRAM PC133 but laptop memory I think...

I say just get the upgrade from AKAI if you don't want to worry about things not working, returning memory chips to the store, etc..

$100 is a little more than i'd like to pay but i'll pay it if i need to. but everwhere i look, they're priced at $130. where can i find 'em for 100?
 
I know, these days memory is so cheap its hard to pay a higher price, but personally I prefer to be safe and use official upgrades inside my gear

Wow, a hundred bones? I'm lucky mine came upgraded (bought used, craigslist).
 
what about the extra storage space for samples i read you can upgrade to 2 gb. Is it worth and how much does that cost. I also found a website that sells 128mb for 50 dollar just do asearcha dn click the bizrate prices and they come up

I use an IBM Microdrive, a 1gb model, which I got off ebay for $175. It works very well, I can't imagine needing more than a gig, really.

are you talking about MPC 1000 RAM?
