Help!!!!
I've got 2,000$ ya'll. I want to either get a Motif ES or the Fantom-S loaded with the Studio SRX rom. Please tell me what would be more efiicient. I wanted more sounds to tweak but i dont know who has the best acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, and who has great stings and keys (including grand piano).
Help me as much as possible. I am open to any other suggestions for another keyboard rig that may be suit my interest and would be under the 2000$ limit. Maybe a certain sound module and controller??? Im open to anything.
Im in a town that really doesnt have music stores so it is practically impossible for me to be able to hear how anything sounds. Except through internet demos. (But i wanna play with it too!!!)
So please respond (nicely, there are some rude poeple on this site).
Thanx Ya'll and God Bless

:D

Sorry, nobody can tell you wich is better. All i can give you is my personal subjective opinion.

I love the sound of the Fantom. And i can tell this even by the internet demos. You can certainly hear the typical Roland sound and the Yamaha sound from the online demos. I personally perfer the Fantom sound, but most people like the Motif more. Forget about the voice number and the inserts and check out the sound. That's the most important thing.

Check out the Fantom:

Check out the Motif:

Crank up those speakers!

I had a fantom and took it back and now plan to get a motif es. I felt that roland sounds were quantity over quality as far as presets go. Motif es is next level, and according to keyboard mag, the ES now holds 1gb of samples, so you get plenty of sounds potentially. if you're going to spend 2 grand, why don't you get to a music store to check these two synths out, even if you gotta drive 3 hours, take an amtrak or whatever, you'll never know what will suit your tastes until you try them out. It's a big investment and could be a deciding factor in your success. Another option, is there a studio near you that may have these synths and let you check them out?

Thank You all

Thanx for your support. It's always great for people to be helpfull and to share there opinion. I love the Motif sound demos too, and there is a Studio nearby. Im not too sure if they have these two workstation but i'll check. Thanx guys alot!!!

Do This...

Roland Fantom S. To me, it sounds as good as Motif/Triton/Proteus/Kurzweil... Presets are Presets and all that X sounds better than Y is just hype and more honestly, it is just crap. I own all that crap. It is all the same. Any real PRO will tell you that. For what you want. Fantom S, Studio SRX, Concert Piano (NOTHING ELSE ANYWHERE COMES CLOSE), Complete Orchestra, and maybe a fun Rom like Platinum Trax, or Vintage, World, or something. Add 128MB sample Ram and you'll be fine. Expansion cards and sample Ram are cheaper on Ebay. I'd buy the work station new though. $1499.95 at AMS will get you the Fantom S and use the rest on ebay to max it out. Good Luck.

presets are not all the same, different instruments work for different music styles and that's why you need to listen to instruments before buying to see what sounds work for you. Also there are differences in sonic quality, for example, without fx, many of the triton sounds are very compressed. And many synth workstations don't emulate realistic instruments very well .
If all synths sound alike, there would never be any need for new gear or improvements over gear we had ten years ago.
Saying they are all the same is ridiculous, lets all go buy a k2000 or trinity in that case and we should be set for life.
Anyways, to original poster, it's important you listen to see what inspires you and not base your decision on a strangers biases.

I don't have a bias. I have a pc2r, motif rack, xv-5050, proteus 2000, all stuffed with roms (I ditched the triton rack, and I'll probably ditch a couple more) as far as romplers go. They do sound the same at least 70-80% of the time. A string section preset is a string section preset and there are little to no differences...EVEN ON THE KURZWEIL...It is all on how you program... So yes, when it comes to programming, if you are good you COULD buy a Trinity or a K2000 and be set for life in the meat and tater Rom box department. Quit ACTING like you are knowledgeable with "...there are differences in sonic quality, for example, without fx, many of the triton sounds are very compressed. And many synth workstations don't emulate realistic instruments very well" blah blah blah crap. What good is a K2600 if someone can't program its V.A.S.T. engine? A preset is a preset. Why do you think Roland/Korg/Yamaha/Emu/Kurzweil keep repackaging old presets in with a few new ones and just put it in a *gasp* new engine? Which, btw , is the reason for my tag line. I only buy new rack modules for that reason. New sounds, but I still end up with all the old ones anyway. And they get used.

I'm not interested in arguing, just presenting some knowledge for this guy looking for guidance. Maybe you don't have the ears to hear the differences in sonic quality, but there are differences,"any real PRO will tell you that" .Have you compared a roland xv 88 to the 5050?, there is a significant dropoff in the sonic quality of many of the strings and basses on the same presets. Learn to curb your arrogance and negativity and maybe you might have a valid opinion in there somewhere.

More blah, blah, blah blah blah blah, blah, blah

Yawn. And you are still wrong... Negativity? Arrogance? Well, no and yes. So what, are you sensitive or something?

i've been through plenty of romplers in my time and yes there are "sonice differences" between dem, the xv5080 has da same sounds as the jv2080 just wit better converters. but if u using presets it shouldnt even matter becuz u'll just sound like everyone else enyway

Didn't mean to cause problems

Thanx guys for you (STRONG) opinions. Im pretty sure that all of the sound modules dont sound the same, that's why i asked which would best fit my likings (strings, and electric, bass, and acoustic guitars). Thanx for the help though ya'll. And remember why ya'll are doing this, to create music, not to beat each other up about how great one piece of equipment it. God bless you all. Peace :D

good luck with your purchase

you didn't cause any problem here. There are only a few people here who will disrupt a thread like that. I wanted to suggest for you to check out two websites: harmony central and sonic state, if you haven't already. Those are sites where people post reviews of gear that they own. Peace
