midi piano roll or notation software to write music? would having music notation improve your music as there is notations passed on from hundreds of year, or midi as the visual are better, or is it a matter of taste and ideas then the program?

Matter of taste, but I reckon most people nowadays just use the piano roll - unless, of course, you're making notation for other players/performers.

Piano roll is easier to write down.

Sheet music is easier to read if you play an instrument, and takes up less space if you want to print it out and give it to someone to play.

I think it depends from style of music you write.For Edm i think piano roll is better,score is better for more complex harmonies and counterpoint melodies.
